Walking in the Plans and Purposes of God 04

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
 – Romans 12:2

Many Christians spend much more time with the “world” than they do with the “Word.” Christian lives under the guilt of condemnation, depression, and unbelief of this world as a result.

Paul tells us that we will “prove” the “good, perfect, and acceptable will of God” only if we first renew our minds with the Word of God. The word “prove” means that mind renewal is the only way you will see the will of God manifest in your life.

I have found that the number one way to find the will of God is by giving ourselves entirely to God. You will do this by immersing yourself in His Word and making it your number one priority. I believe that it is impossible to miss His plans and purposes if you make this commitment!

It seems as if most Christians either do not believe God has a unique plan for their life or struggle with identifying what that plan is. You can be assured that He has a plan and purpose for your life that was developed even before you took your first breath!

It is not hard to find God’s plan and purpose for your life, but it is not easy. I know that this may seem like a contradiction. The reason people struggle with the plan for their life because the gate through which we must walk to find it is narrow.

The gate that you must walk through is referenced in Romans 12:1 – 2. It will require you to first present your body as a living sacrifice to God and then secondly pay the price required to renew your mind with His Word.

If you ever find yourself in a place where you are bored with the Christian life, it is because you have not yet discovered the plan God has ordained for you to fulfill. Vision is birthed when you find the Lord’s will that will lead you into places beyond anything you can now think of or imagine.

God is supernatural. His plans and purposes will always require you to walk in places beyond your natural abilities. People who say that they are cruising through life in the will of God have not yet discovered His plan and purpose.

Walking in the plans and purposes of God gives birth to a vision that will always be beyond your reach and grasp. It will require you to live in a state of dependency on the Holy Spirit to accomplish.

Christians often look to natural aids like spiritual gift inventories to identify the gifts and callings of God. My problem with these is that natural aids cause us to focus on our natural abilities and talents. I have seen people led away from the plan of God by well-meaning ministers who used some type of natural aid to help people pick and choose a place of spiritual service based on natural gifts and talents.

You cannot look to your natural abilities and successfully unlock the plan of God at the same time. God has called you to live and operate on a supernatural level that will require complete dependence on His Spirit.

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

That no flesh should glory in his presence. (1 Corinthians 1:26 – 29)

In one sense, Paul provides us with a job description for the person used by God. Qualifications listed include: lacking natural wisdom being weak, foolish, and despised. Would you apply if you saw a job posting with these required skills?

The wisdom of this world is nothing in comparison to God’s. Many Scriptures tell us not to lean on our understanding. A person who is enamored with their abilities and natural talents is not in a position of walking in the plan of God for their life!
