We have discovered that God has designed a unique plan for each of our lives. This plan was authored before our birth.
Many people live their entire life without ever entering into the plan God ordained for them to walk in. Every human being has a free will and is allowed the freedom to choose which path they will walk.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us along the path of life (John 14:16). He is standing by to help but we must acknowledge His presence and invite Him to be a part of our daily activities.
The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He desires to have fellowship (1 Corinthians 13:14) but will never force Himself into our lives. Many Christians do not recognize His presence and are not even aware that He is a person with whom they can develop a relationship.
Many people struggle with identifying the plan of God. They pray and cry out to God but still end up with no more clarity regarding the plan than when they started. I’ve learned over time the reason for this is that they have not learned how to follow the Holy Spirit or recognize His leadings.
Jesus told His disciples that the Word of God is seed to be planted in the heart (Mark 4). It must be planted and given time to grow.
Finding the plan of God will require us to spend much time giving careful and considerate thought to His Word. If we are only looking at a single verse or chapter each day, we will not succeed in this journey.
An abundant harvest will require us to plant an abundance of seed in the ground of our hearts. Receiving clarity in understanding the plan will come from that harvest. Receiving that harvest will require us to spend hours in prayer and meditation every day.
So the choice of how far we can travel on the path God has planned for us is ours alone. The Holy Spirit is standing by to help if we will look to Him but He will not force Himself on us.
We can choose to live a life dominated by the natural realm or one dominated by the Spirit. God will guide us but He will not override the choice we make.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
Psalms 139:16-17
We were known by God before our conception! The Psalmist tells us that He has a book in which the plan for all the days of our life has been written.
I don’t think any of us will ever be able to grasp just how much God loves us. He wants the best for our lives but will not override our choices.
We will not experience His best if we choose not to set aside the weights that hold us in bondage to the natural realm. It amazes me to think that He loves us enough to allow us to make choices that will draw us away from Him.
I once asked the Holy Spirit why He anointed people like Smith Wigglesworth or Kenneth E. Hagin more than He did others. His answer startled me because I assumed that the answer would be the call on their lives. He said that the only difference between those He can anoint and those He is unable to anoint is the price the person paid for the anointing!
God has planned for you and me to walk in the supernatural. The miraculous should be “normal” but few of us will experience it because of the price required.
It will require a significant amount of time and effort to discover the plan of God. Completing this journey will require us to spend hours locked away with the Word of God in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Spiritual hunger is another key required to unlock the door leading into God’s plan. This is something we must develop. Are we willing to wake up a few hours earlier, turn off the television, or even miss a few meals to spend time with our Creator? It is easy to say yes but will we commit to doing what is necessary to find the plan of God?
I recognize that there are natural commitments we must tend to. Finding the plan of God will require us to make sacrifices to seek God without compromising our work or families. We are not alone and the Holy Spirit will guide us each step of the way if we look to Him.
God has placed the gifts and talents needed to find and fulfill His plan inside of us. They were deposited in our spirit before our birth. We can choose to develop them or not to. We can also choose to use them for selfish purposes or eternal ones.
We are talking about a much different level of commitment than most Christians will choose to make. The majority will choose to live at a level of Christianity that is easy and non-confrontational. They will not experience the miraculous power of God in their daily lives.
I know that it is not necessarily comfortable to talk about paying a price to pursue the plan of God. This is not the popular Christian path that is portrayed in the “seeker-friendly” churches of our day. It is the path less traveled but it is the one that will lead us into the plan of God.
