For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:17
We are called to live our Christian walk by faith. Faith is the way God operates and it His choice for how we are to live.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6
Faith is the only way we can please God. We can pray all day long or even show up at church every day to help out without pleasing God. If our prayers and service are not offered in faith they are not going to be pleasing to God.
A key point to understand is that our works alone cannot please God. Our relationship with Him must be from the heart which will require us to live by faith.
God is the ultimate giver. Faith pleases Him it appropriates what He has provided through His grace. It is how we take hold of all that He has made available.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:17
Faith is progressive. It should grow day by day as we move through our Christian walk.
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Romans 12:3
God is the source of our faith.
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Mark 11:22
The Interlinear of this verse reads: “Have faith from God.”
Jesus and Paul both state that the faith we are called to live by is faith dealt to us by God.
The faith we are called to walk in comes from God.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17
Faith is “dealt” to us as we read and meditate on the Word of God. This is not just a light reading that Paul is talking about. For faith to come, we must approach Scripture with expectancy of hearing from God and we must give it careful and considerate thought.
There are people who say that they just can’t believe. They are wrong and probably do not understand the nature of faith. Faith is part of the new creation and every child of God has been given a measure of it.
One key point for us to remember is that we do not have to necessarily understand faith in order to believe. We choose to believe because we trust God to do what He promises.
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18
It is impossible for God to lie. We can accept His promises without question. Our faith is built on this assurance.
We do not need to understand faith in order to choose to believe. In my early years I studied under the ministry of Kenneth E. Hagin. He used to say that he could not understand how a brown cow could eat green grass and give white milk that would turn yellow when churned into butter. He did not have to understand it to enjoy the milk or butter. Reverend Hagin’s point was that we do not have to understand a thing to enjoy the benefits of it.
Faith is not based on knowledge and understanding. We choose to believe God’s Word regardless of whether or not we understand what we are seeing.
