Many feel that sin is the primary issue. It is not. Grace has already dealt with sin. The issue now is whether or not we are willing to add faith to what has been provided through grace.
Grace and faith must be mixed together.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Grace is what God has provided independent of our self effort. It is the nature and heart of God to provide for mankind.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Peter 2:24
Grace has provided healing for us regardless of whether we receive it or not.
Peter tells us that it was by the stripes placed on Jesus that we were healed. It is an accomplished fact provided for us through God’s grace.
People struggle with receiving because they do not understand how to appropriately separate faith and grace. God cannot provide what has already been provided. Those stripes were laid on Jesus once and we are not waiting for healing to be provided!
Salvation is often the easiest provision of God to receive. The reason is that it is presented as something that has already been accomplished in Jesus’ redemptive. All of the other blessings like healing are presented differently as something that God is going to do.
People do not struggle with receiving salvation because they are placing faith in God’s grace. It seems that the majority of Christians stop putting faith in what is provided by grace in redemption. They instead begin to redirect their faith into a works mentality.
“If I go to church today God will move on someone to pay off my car.”
“If I join a service team God will be able to heal me.”
These statements are similar to what many Christians are saying today. They are based in a works mentality that Jesus came to deliver us from.
Just as we did nothing to earn God’s saving grace so we can do nothing to earn His healing grace!
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Mark 7:13
Religious tradition is focused on self effort. It provides lists of works that we must do to earn God’s blessings. He is not going to respond based on the number of boxes we’ve checked by fasting, praying, and serving in Church!
