Who Is This Holy Spirit Part 7

There are a lot of Christians who are unaware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in their life. The live from one trial to another without ever looking to Him. These are usually the same people who struggle to understand how anyone can hear the voice of God.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
John 14:16

If you have received Jesus as your Lord the Holy Spirit has taken up residence in your spirit. Jesus said that He would be with us forever. We do not have to ask God to pour our His presence. He is within every Christian’s spirit.

We are called to trust God. The Holy Spirit will lead us to the people we can trust.

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
Acts 10:19-20

The Holy Spirit told Peter that He had sent these men. We do not trust people blindly. Christians are not to believe and tend to be overly trusting. People will not be able to take advantage of a Christian who learns to follow the Spirit’s direction.

Philip followed the Spirit and led an Ethiopian official into salvation. This had to have affected his nation.

Peter followed the Spirit and a door was opened to the Gentiles.

The Holy Spirit is directing us every moment of every day. Many will never respond to His promptings. They have never disciplined themselves to identify His leadings.

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily. Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
Acts 16:5-7

Notice two things in these verses:

  • …and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia
  • …they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not

Paul was making ministry plans. He was set on going to Asia but the Holy Spirit stopped him.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 16:15-16

Jesus commanded His disciple to go into all the world. Many read this and interpret it to mean they should go. The Church is called to the world but each individual member is not. There is a specific place for us where we will be most effective. Finding that requires us to follow the Spirit just as Paul did in his ministry.

The Holy Spirit did not stop everyone from going to Asia. He did stop Paul though because that was not the plan for his ministry.

There are a lot of people who will not receive from us. The Holy Spirit knows who will.

Paul tried to go to Asia and the Holy Spirit stopped him. He then tried to go to Bithynia and once again the Spirit stopped him. We can be led just like Paul was.

You can develop a relationship with the Holy Spirit. He will lead you just like He did Philip, Peter, and Paul. We are going to be spending some time examining His ministry but first must learn to identify His presence in our daily lives.

The first step into a Spirit filled life is to recognize that the Holy Spirit is a divine person. He was sent by Jesus to assist us in even the most mundane aspects of life.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:16-17

The word translated “another” means “one of the same kind”. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be the same kind of Comforter as He was to the disciples.

This Comforter will be with us every day. He will lead and guide us if we will learn to recognize and acknowledge His presence in our every
