We began to discuss the fifth method of receiving divine healing in our last post. This is the laying on of hands. Hebrews 6:1-2 tells us that this is a fundamental doctrine of Christ.
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Hebrews 6:1-2
In my study of Scriptures I’ve seen two primary ways this doctrine is applied:First, every believer can practice laying on of hands as a faith contact.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:17-18
Jesus told His disciples that believers would lay hands on the sick and as a result the sick would recover. The only qualification provided is “believe”.
I have heard people make excuses for not laying hands on the sick. They say things like, “I’m not anointed” or “God couldn’t use me”. Jesus did mention the anointing and He didn’t say that these things would only be done by people God could use.
Every believer is anointed. When a person accepts Jesus as their Savior, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in their Spirit.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
John 14:16
The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost (see Acts 2). He has not left. This same Spirit that fell on Pentecost is dwelling in your spirit if you are a Christian!
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me…
Luke 4:18
Who anointed Jesus? The Holy Spirit did and He is dwelling in the spirit of every Christian! If a person is not anointed it is because they have not become a Christian.
One of our greatest needs today is for a revelation of the indwelling presence of the Spirit!
And these signs shall follow them that believe…
Jesus said “these signs” follow those who “believe”. He did not have to include the anointing because if you believe, you have the Holy Spirit with you. This means you are anointed!
Do you believe in Jesus?
Do you believe in the name of Jesus?
If you answered yes then you qualify! You can hands on the sick in faith.
This is the first way that this doctrine is practiced.
Let me close this post by explaining what I mean by saying that this is a point of contact. The moment hands are placed on a sick person is the moment for them to release their faith. It is the point where they start believing that the power of God has been released!
