But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Jesus is your righteousness if you are a Christian! This is a key revelation that we must develop in order for us to experience the victorious life God has planned for us. We have been reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:18) and we have been made accepted in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:6). Our standing before God is based on our position in Christ. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Take a moment to think about a mirror. Why do we look into them? Is our goal to find out if anything is out of place that needs to be fixed? If we look and see that our hair needs to be combed, will we comb it or walk away without taking any action? Most of us will pick up the comb and continue looking into the mirror until what we see reflects our desired look. There are many people in the Church who struggle with the concept of being righteous. They have not developed an awareness of the spiritual realm or their position in Christ. Our “sin” nature dominated us before we met Jesus. It controls us and is the reason we commit “sins”. The sin nature dominates the unsaved and produces death in the forms of sickness, poverty, strife, and so much more. It is also able to dominate Christians who are not spending time every day meditating in God’s Word and prayer to renew their minds. A revelation of righteousness is foundational to our being able to live the victorious life God has planned for every human being. Religious tradition dictates that righteousness is something we are working towards. This is counter to what Scripture teaches. Righteousness is not something that we are working to attain. It is the nature of a Christian. If we have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior our sin nature is dead and gone. There are people who act holy, attend church, or even stand in the pulpit that have not received him as their personal savior. We must realize that God does not deal with us based on our “holiness” or service in church each week. Our relationship is solely based on the blood of Jesus and change of nature. If we are loved by God unconditionally does it really matter if we live holy or sinful lives? Paul answered this question in Romans 6. The victorious Christian life is an obedient one. It will require us to place our complete trust in God and His guidance. God created us. He knows what is best for us. His instructions may not always lead in directions we find easy to pursue but they will always lead us into the plan and path He created us to walk in. There is a supernatural protection in the spiritual realm similar to a natural umbrella. We are able to stand under this protection when we walk in obedience to God. Disobedience is equivalent to the person who steps out from under an umbrella in a rainstorm! Do you have an umbrella? We have the same power residing in our spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11). Paul told us that he lived by the faith of Jesus (Galatians 2:20). There is only one measure of faith provided to man so it is easy to conclude that we would also have the faith of Jesus just like Paul did. Human faith is based on what we can see, taste, feel, smell, or hear. Salvation requires us to believe in a God we’ve never seen. It takes supernatural faith to receive salvation. This is received by hearing the Word of God and it is what Paul called “the measure” of faith. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I used to volunteer at a rescue mission for homeless people. We would serve a meal and then have the men attend chapel. If we were serving soup, each man would receive one ladle full. They would be given “the measure” of soup which would be equivalent to the capacity of that ladle. Each person would receive the same amount. We did not give a teaspoon to some of the men, a cup to others, or even two ladles. Each one received a single ladle full of soup. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Grace will now reign if we will train ourselves to yield to it. This is possible because we have been made righteous. God has made our spirit righteous. This is not something we can feel or see in the mirror. A revelation of righteousness is foundational to our being able to live the victorious life God has planned for every human being. Religious tradition dictates that righteousness is something we are working towards. This is counter to what Scripture teaches.
