Fundamental Keys To Unlock The Holy Spirit’s Ministry 11

Early Christians were very aware of the Holy Spirit in their day-to-day lives. We can train ourselves to recognize His presence in ours today equally. You will find that this level of awareness will not develop accidentally. It will require effort to grow in this level of relationship.

You may find yourself wondering how people can live without the leading of the Spirit as you develop in your relationship. The reason is that spiritual things will start to become “normal” to you, leading to dissatisfaction with natural things that used to bring you great satisfaction.

Being Spirit-led can save your life on a day-to-day basis. Avoidable accidents occur every day that could be missed by heeding His promptings to go a different direction while traveling or not to show up at a place as you originally planned.

I once was on the way to minister at a recovery center and was late. As I approached the entrance to our subdivision, an urge to turn left came up out of my spirit. My destination was right, so turning left would put me further behind. Thankfully, I listened because someone ran the light and hit the car turning right that had been behind me! That car would have struck mine if the schedule was more important to me than the Spirit’s prompting.

I have found that people are led and directed by external input that has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. These include intellect, other people’s opinions, and their physical feelings. You will never be smart enough to guide your own life the way the Holy Spirit can guide you! Each one of us needs help and He is standing by to provide it.

The Holy Spirit leads you through your spirit. People get into trouble because they are more aware of the physical senses and do not look inward to Him. The more familiar you are with your spirit, the clearer His leadings will become. Spiritual exercises like meditating on the Word of God and praying in the Spirit will increase your awareness of the spiritual realm.

The early Christians had an awareness of the Holy Spirit that seems to be missing for most Christians. We spend time thinking about our problems or choices that need to be made instead of praying about them. I’ve found that there are times when the best course of action is to stop thinking and to start praying.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)

How can you pray when you don’t know how to? The answer to this question is that you must learn to yield to the Holy Spirit’s utterances in prayer. Scripture calls this type of prayer “praying in the spirit.”

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (1 Corinthians 14:2)

I once heard a minister say, “Mysteries prayed out will bring revelation.” Paul tells us that we pray out “mysteries” when praying in the spirit. I believe that this is what the minister was describing.

Have you ever noticed how controversial the subject of “tongues” is? Satan does not want us to yield to the Holy Spirit in prayer because he knows that it will enable us to pray out the wisdom of God. I believe that this type of prayer is one of God’s secret weapons that allow us to bypass our minds and pray directly from our spirit.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

I believe that this verse provides a clue to where the Holy Spirit leads us. Our “heart” is the core of our being. It is our spirit, and it is also where the Spirit dwells. You do not have to depend on the input of your five physical senses to make decisions in life if you learn to look inward to Him!

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

We cannot abuse the precious things of God. Selfish people will not be able to walk in them. You will be unable to develop any level of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit or grow spiritually if your only motive is to build your kingdom.

The Holy Spirit will begin to open the mysteries of God to you when you get interested in God and seek His kingdom first. You will find oneness in your relationship with the Spirit of God when your “selfish” desires are replaced with God’s.
