Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. (Mark 7:13)
The primary barrier keeping Christians from walking in the fullness of God’s provision is our traditions. Whether our church is from a mainline denomination or independent with a label such as Charismatic or Word of Faith, we all have them.
It does not matter what our traditions may or may not say about divine healing. The word sózó means “to save, deliver, protect, heal, preserve, save, and be whole.”
Jesus delivered us from poverty, sickness, demons, and sin. To say otherwise requires us to remove verses from our Bibles. It also is equivalent to tossing out one-fourth of our salvation provided by the broken body of Jesus.
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews 10:29)
A person who refuses to believe what Scripture says about prosperity, healing, or demonic deliverance is essentially doing what this verse describes. Disavowing or refusing to believe God has provided these things in Jesus’ redemptive work, a person is voiding the Word of God in their life.
I have heard many people say that God can heal over the years. What does this mean to them? The devil believes this.
We need to move beyond believing that God can heal to knowing it is His will for us to be well. We’ve spent so much time introducing the subject of divine healing because it will not benefit us to look at healing Scriptures if we do not believe God has provided healing in our redemption.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. (James 1:5-7)
If Satan can make us waiver on the fact that it is God’s will for us to walk in divine health, it will be impossible for us to receive His healing power.
Faith is something we use to reach out and obtain something already provided by God. If we view healing as something that might happen and continue to question whether it is His will or not, we will not receive it.
I know that there will be people fighting some form of sickness who will read these words. Some will be offended and allow the enemy to condemn them for suffering the way they are. We must not let the enemy do this.
My goal is to encourage you. We will all be attacked with symptoms and have physical situations that require us to release our faith.
God loves each one of us so much that He provided for the forgiveness of our sins, entire financial supply, freedom from demonic oppression, and the healing of our bodies even before we were born!
We are not waiting on God to heal us because He has already done so! It is our passive attitudes towards His Word that have kept us from receiving what He has provided!
Religious tradition tells us that God can heal, but we have zero control over whether He will do so for us. Christians who believe this are passive because they do not think their prayers will affect their situations.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. (Matthew 11:12)
What would happen if people were as passive about salvation as they are about healing? Some people are, but most Christians invited Jesus to be their Savior and did not wait for Him to do so without requiring them to do anything.
Salvation is an accomplished fact. It is not a matter of whether God will save a person who approaches Him in faith. He provides humanity a choice to either believe or not to but will not force us to receive.
God has provided salvation to anyone who will receive it. He does not require us to go through any complicated process but instead just asks that we simply receive His forgiveness and confess that Jesus is the Lord of our lives.
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6-7)
We receive everything provided by God through faith. Healing, deliverance, salvation, prosperity have all been provided in Christ’s redemptive work
God requires humanity to reach out and take salvation. He expects us to do the same with every other blessing, including physical healing.
Most Christians will pray a prayer that essentially says, “If it is your will, please heal me.”
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (1 John 5:14-16)
God revealed His will to us in His Word. We cannot ask with “confidence” if we are not praying according to the Word. I have found over the years that the majority will not take time to discover what Scripture says about their situation before praying.
The Word of God will build confidence in our spirit that healing is ours. It was provided through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. God no more desires for us to be sick than He does for us to spend eternity separated from Him in hell.
