Fundamental Building Blocks Of The Spirit Filled Life

Part 3

Our focus on the future has caused the world to turn to other sources for hope than God. The world hears us talk about the rapture and heaven. They are concerned about the issues faced today. Why would they want to turn to God when His followers seem to be in as bad shape as they are?

There is a heaven and a hell in our future. A person who has not been born again will indeed spend eternity in hell. Many people are living in such a hellish state now that they cannot look beyond this life. They struggle through their days and perceive the Church as irrelevant to their problems because we only speak of the future and offer no hope for today. Do you think things would be in a different state if Christians were following the command of Jesus to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and raise the dead (Matthew 10:8)?

It is the Holy Spirit who causes miracles to happen. Without Him, we are powerless. Walking in the power of God will require us to learn to yield to Him. There are no exceptions. Churches and ministries that preach against the Holy Spirit and His gifts do not see miracles manifesting. Those that do preach about Him and His relevance for today will see miracles in manifestation.

There is a connection between the miraculous and the Holy Spirit that most Christians are missing. We desire to walk in the supernatural but will not without first recognizing His presence in our lives! If the Church were to start receiving, flowing, and working with His anointing, we would begin to see much greater manifestations of God’s power.

I believe that we are not seeing more of God’s provision in our lives because we do not recognize the Holy Spirit as anything more than an impersonal force. He desires to develop a relationship with each one of us. We will continue to live under our own steam and power until we acknowledge His presence.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 16:13

Do you think our lives would be different if we had insight into the things that would happen in the future? The majority go through life like they are wearing a blindfold. We have the Holy Spirit, and He will show us things to come and what we need to do to prepare if we listen to Him.

I was scheduled to ministry during chapel service for a local street mission several years ago. There was a light at the entrance of my subdivision. The mission was to the right, but there was a “nudge” within me to turn left, which did not make “sense” as that would cause me to arrive late. I had spent enough time with the Holy Spirit to recognize that He was trying to “show” me something and so moved into the left turn lane. The car behind me did not. A car ran the red light as they turned right, causing an accident. I was protected because I paid attention to what the Holy Spirit was directing me to do!

We are not supposed to operate separately from the Holy Spirit. He wants to work with us in partnership, guiding our lives. Christians make plans without His involvement and then are surprised when things do not work for them the way they hoped. If we allowed the Holy Spirit to give us His plans, we would find that things would work out much better for us.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Romans 8:14

The Holy Spirit can lead every Christian through life. Following His direction will require us to recognize His presence. Very few of us acknowledge Him and follow His leading. Most stumble through life and only look to Him when their backs are to the wall and are experiencing a crisis.

Zerubbabel was leading Israel in an impossible task. The nation did not have the resources to fund rebuilding efforts. Prospects for success were, low and things looked bleak. God sent an angel with a message. He told Zerubbabel that success would only come by the Holy Spirit and not the people’s efforts (Zechariah 4;6). God has given us the same Holy Spirit and we can overcome any obstacle if we will learn to depend on Him.
