1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:1-2
Every act of creation was accomplished through the Holy Spirit’s power. Some people have trouble with the concept of God being three separate individuals while at the same time being one.
I personally do not have a complete understanding of the Trinity and do not think anyone will until we arrive in heaven. When Jesus was baptized the Father spoke audibly and the Holy Spirit descended from heaven (Luke 3:22). This clearly showed the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three distinct beings.
There are other examples in Scripture that show each member of the godhead as separate individuals. They are three separate beings and at the same time are one. This is a concept that is difficult for our natural mind to understand!
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
John 5:30
Jesus was separate from God but He was also dependent on Him. Every sermon, every miracle, and every healing recorded in the Gospel account were all the result of Jesus’ complete reliance on God and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
We see in the creation account that the Holy Spirit was “moving” over the face of the waters. The Bible clearly shows that God has never moved without the involvement of the Holy Spirit.
The Hebrew word translated “moving” describes the Holy Spirit as “brooding”. This is like a mother chicken “brooding” over her eggs to incubate them. The Holy Spirit was the creative force behind creation. We see Him being described as “moving” over the face of the waters and I believe the reason was that He was waiting for the Word of God to be spoken.
The Holy Spirit is the creative force behind creation. Everything in the physical and natural realms that can be experienced with our five physical senses was created by Him in response to the Word of God being spoken.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.
John 20:22
Every Christian receives the Holy Spirit when they invite Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. I have heard people pray that God would give them more of the Spirit. They do not realize that He is already with them and that they did not receive just a small piece of Him at salvation.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
John 1:16
His fullness is received via the person of the Holy Spirit coming to dwell in our spirit at the moment we were born again and became Christian.
God does not fragment the Holy Spirit and put only a tiny piece into the spirit of His children! Everyone Christian has the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of their spirit because they have the fullness of His presence inside of them. This is the same power that was in manifestation at creation!
The Holy Spirit was active in the creation of the heavens and earth. He is dwelling inside of every Christian. It is our lack of revelation regarding His presence that makes us wonder if God will heal us or provide for our needs.
In my early years of being a Christian, I spent hours begging God to pour out His power in my life. Over time He has shown me that I did this due to a lack of appreciation that the Holy Spirit was already dwelling inside of me. The desired power was already inside of me and I was not placing a demand on it.
I’ve seen people come to a prayer line and mention several things that they could live with if God would only heal one of them. They do not understand that He has already provided healing for every condition and has no desire for us to just live with some.
We do not have a concept of the Holy Spirit or of His power. The way most Christians approach God seems to indicate they are concerned about maxing out His power with their sickness or need. Our situation may seem big from our perspective but He will probably only require a small drop of His power! As we begin to experience His power, our abilities to believe and to receive will increase.
12 Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.
2 Corinthians 6:12
Paul is referencing the human heart in this verse. The limitations experienced in life are a result of our own hearts limiting us.
The same Holy Spirit who indwells the Christian is the same Holy Spirit who was active in creation. He enabled Israel to pass through the Red Sea on dry ground and He was the force that allowed Jesus to walk on water. We limit His ability to work in our lives by our small thinking!
