I believe that a manifestation of God’s power is a validation of the Christian’s message. Without this, there is no tangible validation of the Gospel message and it is easy for believers to dismiss it.
The manifestation of the power cannot happen without the Holy Spirit’s presence also being manifested among us. Jesus told His disciples to heal the sick and to do so required them to work in partnership with the Spirit.
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Acts 10:38
There are no exceptions to the need for us to partner with the Holy Spirit. He was the one who anointed Jesus to perform the miracles recorded in Scripture and He is the one who will anoint us today.
Some people will become offended at the thought of miracles being available today. They are usually the ones who preach against the Holy Spirit and the miraculous. These are also the people who do not see the miraculous power of God operating in their churches or their lives.
We hunger for the supernatural but will never experience it without the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives. Christians who will learn to work in partnership with the Holy Spirit will see His power manifesting and in turn, will also see people drawn to what is happening in their lives.
The Holy Spirit imparts supernatural ability that removes the limits from our lives. We have seen that it is not by our might or by our power that God has called us to live. He sent His Spirit to dwell with us and to empower us for the miraculous.
I believe that the reason we are not experiencing more miracles is due to our lack of recognition and the Holy Spirit in our midst. This is evidenced by how few Christian’s lives reflect even the smallest hint of dependence on Him. It seems that the majority of people who identify as Christian do not even have a vision of the Holy Spirit’s presence in their lives.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
John 16:13-14
Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would show us “things to come”. He is with every Christian and will us things ahead of us if we will train ourselves to look to Him. The Holy Spirit will guide us each step of the way if we will look to Him. He was sent to be with us because God never meant for us to be without help in our lives.
I used to spend hours crying out to God to bless my work and ministry. Over time it became clear that His blessings were missing simply because I was not taking the time to listen before acting. He was not obligated to bless my plans and so His blessings were missing. This all changed when I learned to slow down, listen, and then do what He directed me to do! If we take the time to listen before formulating our plans we will be guaranteed that they will be blessed. This is because they will be His plan and therefore guaranteed to have His blessing!
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14
Christians should be led by the Holy Spirit in every aspect of life. This is considered “normal” in the Bible but very few Christians are following His direction.
It is possible to get to a point where we are dependent on the Holy Spirit in every aspect of life. This is the place that every Christian should be operating from. Very few do though.
Zerubabbel was facing an impossible task when the angel appeared and told him the work would be completed by the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6). He had enemies rising against him and the king of Babylon had constrained the nation.
God is telling us the same thing today as the message delivered by the angel. He has given us His Holy Spirit and supernatural ability. We need to get our eyes off of the situations around us and turn them to the Holy Spirit.
There is supernatural power and ability that have been made available to every Christian. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us and the world should be able to tell a difference in our lives. We should be asking ourselves why this is normally not the case.
Christians are just as sick, poor, and in bondage as the unbelievers living around them. It is no wonder the unsaved are not flocking to our churches. We have been offering them more of the same misery they are already suffering from Jesus!
We are called to be the salt and light of the world. Every Christian should be experiencing the supernatural power of God in their lives. Why does it seem that so few are?
