The Holy Spirit anointed Jesus while He ministered on the earth (Acts 10:38). He is the promised Comforter sent to guide us (John 15:26) in our daily lives. Many Christians have only a limited understanding of His ministry and as a result struggle in their relationship with God.
I believe that the Holy Spirit still moves today and that His gifts are just as relevant today as they were for the early Church. Many disagree with me on this and it is my prayer that He will use this study to open the eyes of our spiritual understanding to the truths contained in Scripture.
Christians will often speak of the Holy Spirit as if He is an impersonal force or unknowable power. It is His anointing that releases the power of God in our lives but He is also a very knowable person who desires to have a relationship with each one of us.
The lack of familiarity with the Holy Spirit is not limited to what are often called traditional churches. Many believers in so-called pentecostal or charismatic churches which are known for emphasizing the Holy Spirit have never had a personal encounter with Him that has affected their lives in any lasting way.
We have access to the Holy Spirit every moment of every day and have no excuse for living defeated lives that are lacking His power. This does not mean that we will not face opposition from Satan but in the midst of his attacks we can always be assured of the Holy Spirit standing with us at each step of our journey.
The Holy Spirit’s ministry in our lives will enable us to overcome any situation or problem by putting us out of the realm of being “normal”. It is unfortunate that there is not a greater revelation of these truths in the body of Christ today!
Far too many Christians approach life as if they are responsible to solve their problems through self-effort or hard work. It is almost as if we believe God has the power to help but is withholding it for some mysterious reason that can’t be explained.
Christians are not powerless. We do not have to beg God to move in our lives! He filled us with His Holy Spirit and we, therefore, have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living inside of our spirits!
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1 John 4:4
The Holy Spirit will put us in the driver’s seat of our lives. We act as if our lives are out of our control. Nothing could be further from the truth! He is with us and will guide us through each step if we will yield and train ourselves to look to Him.
It is our lack of revelation regarding the Holy Spirit’s ministry that leads so many Christians to the altar crying out for help. The help they are seeking is already within them but they are totally unaware of His presence!
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:7
Jesus’ statement in this verse is something that we need to really think about. Most of us would love to have lived when Jesus walked and ministered on the earth. He said though that what we have today through the Holy Spirit’s ministry is much better!
It is hard for most of us to grasp how much better off we are today because few of us are taking advantage of the Holy Spirit’s ministry. According to Jesus though, it is far better than if He were physically present with us today!
I do not believe that the majority value the Holy Spirit the way they would if Jesus were with us. The lack of power seen in most churches and Christian lives is evidence enough that our theology needs to be corrected!
There are a lot of people who talk about the Holy Spirit. They do not understand Him but know that the Bible talks about Him. If we are able to gain a revelation of Him and His ministry it will revolutionize our lives!
The Holy Spirit manifested the power that brought forth the universe. He is the one who manifested the power that raised Jesus from the dead and He is living inside of the spirit of every Christian today!
