Fundamentals Of Finding God’s Plan Part 42

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2

Jesus said that it is the truth we know that sets us free. This is not knowledge based on a casual acquaintance with the truth.

I believe that it is the lack of revelation knowledge from God’s Word that has led to so many Christians seemingly being fertile ground for allowing Satan to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10)”. It certainly is the reason we struggle with being able to unlock the plan of God for our lives.

We have talked extensively now about the need to spend time meditating on the truths of Scripture every day. This is the only way any of us will be able to prove “the good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”. I will even go to the extent of saying that it is the only way any of us will unlock and enter into the plan of God.

All of us have tasted the plan of God in small pieces here or there but how many of us have successfully unlocked it and can say that we are walking in it daily? God desires this for all of us but must know that He can trust us with His good plan for our lives.

The journey into His plan is often an expression of His mercy. It is possible to enter into the fringes with only a partial commitment to the Word. He desires only the best for our lives and will lead us in line with our willingness to pay the price to commit to His ways.

Several years ago the Holy Spirit asked me what would happen if I took each message from our church and listened to it five times before the next service. This would require a huge commitment of time. Most of us hear a message, take notes, and forget most of what was said before we are even at our car in the parking lot after service.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 1:25

The Holy Spirit was not attempting to condemn me with His questions. Most Christians hear the Word and then immediately forget what was heard. He was merely trying to impress on me the need to not be a “forgetful hearer”.

There is a price that must be paid if we are going to unlock the plan of God and walk in it. Our bodies must be presented to the Lord as living sacrifices and our minds renewed with His Word. This is what is required for us to not be “forgetful hearers” and it is what is required for our ways to be “blessed”.

I have met many people through the years who struggle with the concept of hearing the voice of God. The Bible is where He first speaks to us. It provides a foundation for us to learn His voice. Our lack of familiarity with His voice is a result of our lack of familiarity with His written Word.

The Bible is the written Word of God. The Holy Spirit inspired human authors to record what is written in its pages. He speaks to us first through Scripture but will also speak to us through a still small voice in our spirits. This will always be in line with the written Word and so we become familiar with His inner voice by becoming familiar with what is written.

We have now spent some time together seeking keys to unlocking the plan of God. Learning to recognize His voice is key to success in this endeavor and it begins with renewing our minds with His Word.

Natural roads have signs to assist travelers on their journey. These tell us distances to potential destinations, speed limits, or warn of potential hazards that may be ahead. We also have GPS systems in our vehicles and on our mobile phones to help us along the way on a natural journey. These can reroute us when a wrong turn is made.

The Holy Spirit is a much more accurate guide than any road sign or natural GPS. We will not always make the right decisions in our pursuit of the plan of God but He will be with us each step of the way and will reroute us back to the proper path when needed!

Our ability to accurately follow the Holy Spirit will be in direct relation to our familiarity with the written Word. Some people have attempted to find shortcuts but spiritual accuracy will always require time spent in meditation. We will not succeed in our goal to unlock the plan of God if our goal is to find a shortcut!

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

The Bible is a living book that will continuously produce revelation knowledge as we spend time meditating on its truths. It can expose our “innermost thoughts and desires” and will cause our self-nature to wither and die as we allow its truths to conform us to the ways of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-25

Our selfish desires will keep us from the plan of God. We deal with them by presenting our bodies as living sacrifices and renewing our minds with Scripture. As the Word begins to take root in our spirits, it will cause these to die. They will be replaced with spiritual fruit that will begin to grow out of our spirits. This is the point where the plan of God will begin to be much more clear to us.
