Every person who will ever walk on this planet is given the freedom to choose. This is called man’s free will. It means that we are free to choose where our focus will be placed. Our focus will be on the spiritual realm if we choose to pursue God and His Word. It will be in the natural realm if we give little thought to God or His Word.
The choice to pay the price required for us to pursue God will reap dividends resulting in lives lived on a much higher level than any of us can imagine. Most Christians will not choose to pay this price and instead allow their souls to be renewed and conformed into the image of this world.
There is no middle ground if we truly want to unlock the plan of God. This is the reason so many come to the end of their lives without ever stepping into even the first phase of what was planned for them by their creator.
The world we live in is under the control of Satan and filled with sin as a result (2 Corinthians 4:4). Storms and trials will come as a result but we do not have to be overtaken by them like our unsaved neighbors. We can rise above them though only if we choose to pursue God and pay the price to become living sacrifices.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16
Paul called the Gospel “the power of God”. It is our lack of focus on the Word that is the cause of our lack of power!
Let’s think about the average day most Christians will go through. We wake up and spend one to two hours getting ready for work and sleep in on the weekends to catch up on our rest. Some have daily commutes of up to two hours each way to the office if they are not working from home. There might be an hour for lunch. By the time they arrive home some have been at it for almost fourteen hours without giving a single thought to the Bible or their relationship with God.
There are some Christians who will discipline themselves to start with a chapter from the Bible or a devotion. In most cases, they rush through it simply to check a box so they can say that they did not neglect God! I used to be one of these and am very familiar with the temptation.
The family will need attention after an already long day and so most will rush home, change clothes, and eat a “family” dinner with the television playing some sitcom or the daily news. This is the normal day for most Christians that is repeated day after day. It is no wonder that we are not seeing the power of God manifested more in our churches!
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 23:7
We saw that Paul told his readers the Gospel was the power of God. If we are not allowing it to dominate and shape our thought lives, our lives will be powerless. It can only do so if we willingly choose to pay the price to allow the Word to renew our minds.
Let me ask you a question. Do you believe that God would have sent Jesus to serve as our sacrificial lamb if He desired for us to live like unworthy beggars? I don’t!
Christians have been washed with the blood of Jesus. The sin nature has been buried with Him and we have been raised to a new life in the spiritual realm. We can approach the throne of God without any doubt that He will accept us with open arms!
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.
2 Peter 1:3
Peter tells us that God has already provided for every need that will exist in our lives. This provision is accessed through “the knowledge of Him” which is knowledge of the Word of God.
This is not mere head knowledge. We have a lot of Christians who have spent hours memorizing verses or studying Scripture from an academic mindset. They have head knowledge but unchanged lives.
I have observed people run from meeting to meeting hoping for a quick fix. Christians tend to flock to ministers’ meetings who have a perceived special touch that can make all their problems go away without requiring effort on their parts. They are looking for shortcuts but finding none!
We have discussed the need to renew our minds with God’s Word. This is the path to revelation knowledge that is able to open the doorway into the provision spoken of by Peter. It is not an easy path and so the majority choose not to pursue it.
If we are going to succeed in our quest to unlock the plan of God, we will have to pay a price. This will consist of presenting our bodies as living sacrifices and spending whatever time is necessary to renew our minds with the Word of God.
Let me provide one caution here. Paying the price will require a quality decision but it will not mean neglecting our natural responsibilities. It does not mean leaving our families or quitting our jobs but it may mean we wake up a few hours earlier to seek God. The Holy Spirit will guide you if you are willing and look to Him for guidance.
Ignorance of the Word will cost us in the long run. Most of us don’t understand exactly how costly it is. We will never prove what is the “good, acceptable, or perfect will of God” without first paying the price to walk in the revelation required to unlock it.
