Fundamentals Of Finding God’s Plan Part 6

Each one of us has freedom to choose to pursue God or not to. We also are provided the choice of how much effort is put into our pursuit of His plan. He will never force Himself into our lives but will always be waiting when we turn to Him.

God has placed specific talents into our spirits for His plan. It may be possible to develop these for a purpose other than what He has planned for us. There are people who have achieved success through their own efforts but never found satisfaction. They are pursuing their plan and not His.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9

Some people believe that God is in control of everything that happens in our lives. Scripture tells us that it is not His will for any person to perish. He does not want any person to end up in hell but many leave this planet every day doomed to spend eternity there.

Human beings are not chess pieces in a cosmic game of chess. God is not the galactic grand master manipulating us like chess pieces! We act as if He is controlling our every move and decision but nothing could be farther from the truth.

It is never God’s will for a person to leave this earth without choosing to receive His free gift of salvation. Many do but it was their choice. Every person will have the opportunity to accept or deny Jesus before they die. In the same sense we all have choices to make on a daily basis that determine whether we are following His plan or anothers.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:13-14

The path leading away from the plan of God is wide. It is the one most people choose. This is not the will of God but He allows humanity the opportunity to choose to follow Him or not to.

I’ve discovered that the path leading to the plan of God is also narrow. Many have started on this journey only to turn away when they discover the price that must be paid to follow and pursue the plan of God.

The price will be different for each person. For Jesus it was to die on the cross for our salvation. His willingness to serve as our substitution opened the door to our salvation!

Our price will not be as steep as the one Jesus paid. It will be steep though as it will involve the death of our self nature. Those who choose to pay it will fulfill the plan of God and see many lives drawn to the kingdom.

The doorway into God’s plan has been opened. We must choose to step through it. The first step was taken when we asked Jesus to be our Savior. Each day there will be another step and each will lead to still another. This journey will not end while we are on the earth in this life.

Religious tradition has blinded many to the truth that they do have a choice. It tells them that God is in control of everything and as a result their choices do not matter. This is a lie that has robbed many Christians of the joy that can only be found walking in the plan created for their life.

God has a plan for your and my lives! This plan was formulated before any of us were born. We are alive at this time because it is the one God chose for us to live in! Our lives can make an eternal difference but for this to happen we must choose to pursue God on a daily basis by setting aside time for fellowship with our creator around His Word.

Jesus told His disciples that they would not be left alone in the world. He sent the Holy Spirit to accompany them in their journey (John 14:16). This same Holy Spirit is with you and me! He took up residence in our spirit when we accepted the free gift of salvation and will be with us every step of our journey.

Jesus traveled with the disciple for three to three and a half years. He ate with them, stayed at the same place they stayed at, and taught them day after day. The disciples were obviously distraught when Jesus told them that He was going to leave them.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:7

The word “expedient” could also be translated as “profitable”. We can only imagine their reaction to this. They had been with Him in His crusades, seen the miracles, and stood by Lazurus’ grave as he came back from the dead. I imagine they were questioning how it could be profitable for Him to leave them.

Jesus’ departure was profitable because it opened the doorway for the Holy Spirit to come. He took up residency in our spirit when we became a Christian and will never leave us. Just as Jesus was with the disciples every day, the Holy Spirit is with us every moment of every day!

We were not left to fend for ourselves in our Christian journey! The Holy Spirit will guide us into the plan of God if we look to Him and train ourselves to follow His leadings. He understands the gifts and talents God has given us far better than we’ll ever understand them! If we follow His leadings, He will show us how to develop each gift and talent to maximize our ability to pursue the plan of God.

It is important for us to not forget our discussion about choices. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He will not force us to follow Him. He will always be standing by to guide us. It is unfortunate that the majority of us will leave Him standing by waiting and never look at Him!

I believe that many people struggle with finding the will of God simply because they are not actively pursuing it on a daily basis. They do not open their Bible or spend even ten minutes alone in prayer.

Relationships require time and attention. If I was too busy to even spend ten minutes with my wife on a daily basis she probably would not be around today! I love spending time with her and look forward to ending my workday so I can see her and spend time with her.

The Holy Spirit recently asked me if I enjoyed Him as much as I did my wife. We should be just as excited about our relationship with God as we are about natural relationships!
