Fundamentals Of Finding God’s Plan Part 1

There are many Christians who seem to never find the plan of God. They struggle through their Christian journey with little assurance that their lives are fulfilling the purpose for which God put them on the earth.

Every man, woman, and child living on the earth has a unique plan. This is not a cookie cutter one size fits all plan. It was created and designed specifically for us!

I’ve observed many Christians who have struggled with the plan of God. Intuitively, they knew God had a purpose for their life but just not what it was. I myself struggled in the early days of my walk with God!

Our goal in the pages ahead is to take a journey together. This journey will be focused on learning the fundamental truths needed to discover the plan of God. We will look at several keys which the Lord has revealed to me. Each one led me further into the plan.

I believe that each one of these keys will help you just as they helped me. I will serve as a guide on this journey only in the sense that we will be looking at truths that have been revealed to me. The Holy Spirit revealed these to me. He will reveal them to you just as He has to me!

Before we begin, let me share one of the first keys that will be extremely useful in our journey. It involves our vision.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18

Vision grows from the seed of revelation. Revelation is birthed from time set aside for meditation in God’s Word. It is also birthed as we spend time waiting in the presence of God.

Our journey will end in failure if we do not commit to spending time each day alone with the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. Jesus told His disciples that the Word of God is the seed to be planted in our hearts (Mark 4:14). Revelation grows from the seed planted in our heart. Vision is birthed from revelation!

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLV)

We fix our gaze on the unseen realm of God by fixing it on His Word!

We live in a world full of distractions. These may be anything from social media, television programs, and even our family.

Satan will use every tactic imaginable to turn our attention away from the Word of God. He knows the danger of allowing it to become planted in our heart. When it does, revelation knowledge will begin to grow and it will become much more difficult to hold us in bondage!

There will be times where it seems like we are being pulled in every direction. A deadline at work is looming and then our spouse calls to ask to run an errand. While running the errand our boss or a coworker may call requesting status on the deadline. All of these things are meant to draw us away from the Word of God.

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4

I have heard many variations of teaching about spiritual warfare. Most do not agree with Paul’s description in 2 Corinthians 10.

Paul provides us with a description of strongholds that we are called to pull down. These are “imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God”. This is much different than the definition of stronghold that is used in the majority of teaching about spiritual warfare!

So what is the knowledge of God? I submit to you that it is the Word of God. Strongholds then are the things in our lives that divert our attention from spending time meditating on the truths of Scripture!

Paul tells us that the “weapons of our warfare are not carnal”. The word translated “carnal” could also be translated “fleshly” or “earthly”. It is a reference to the natural realm with which we interact through our five physical senses.

One of the major keys to victory in spiritual warfare is “focus”. If our “focus” is outward towards what is happening around us, we will continue to struggle spiritually. It will only be when our “focus” is turned inward to the things of God that things will begin to change in our spiritual walk.

Many people struggle with the plan of God simply because they are not focused on the things of God. They might be able to tell us all of the major news headlines but would struggle to quote more than one or two verses of Scripture. Their “focus” is on the headlines instead of one God’s Word!

  1. I agree, so many are “Church Pew Christians” because they have no vision. They think it is enough to be dutiful believers to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Psalm 73:25-26. But they forget the whole counsel of God, required Faith with works, James 2:18–21.
