Fundamentals Of Victorious Christian Living Part 23

We are new creations in Christ Jesus. Our sin nature has been put to death and replaced with the nature of God.

If we do not change the way we think it will be impossible for our new nature to rule us. We are identical to Jesus in the spirit (1 John 4:17) but many of us do not act like it because we have not changed our thinking.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

In context this verse is talking about the fruit of our born again human spirit. We are filled with love, joy, peace, longsuffering, faith, meekness and temperance. A person who is unaware of this will continue to walk as if they do not have them.

I’ve heard Christians say that they can’t help but be angry. Some blame this on their upbringing and others on their genealogy. They do not understand that their spirit already contains the love and peace of God. It is now just a matter of them renewing their mind to what is already inside of them!

Our nature changed when we were born again. The old nature may have made us angry, depressed, or unloving. It has been replaced with one filled with God’s love and will change our demeanor if we will renew our minds with God’s Word and allow the fruit of our spirit to flow out of us.

Christians are filled with the life of God. It is our lack of knowledge that hinders us from walking in it!

I have heard people testify about being sinners saved by grace in church services. They are wrong! We were sinners; we were saved by grace; but now we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. He has placed His ability inside of us and we do not have to live in fear and anger!

There are far too many people in the Church today who blame other people for their problems. We cannot be victims and victors simultaneously! If we allow other people to determine our actions it will not be possible to change.

I do not have authority over other people’s actions. Satan has an abundance of people he can send across our paths who will criticize and put us down. He has used this strategy successfully since before we were born to knock people off of the path God has ordained for them to walk.

Nothing will change in our lives without a revelation of who we have become in Christ Jesus. This will not come without us first making a commitment to spend time meditating in the Word of God on a daily basis.

People blame their past on their current failure and poor self image. I was beat up, the only child not picked for a team, and told by teachers that my life would amount to nothing. Teachers sent me to the library so I would not be embarrassed by not being able to learn what the other kids were learning.

My early adult life was a mess as a result of my past. This did not change until I chose to look to God’s Word instead of my past!

Jesus is bigger than any obstacle Satan may put in our path! He will bring opposition and there will be difficult experiences on the path God has called us to walk. Jesus has overcome each one and we will come out of each trial and test victoriously if we will learn to walk in Him.

The first step I recommend you take is to spend time meditating on the verses containing phrases such as “in him” or “through him”. The book of Ephesians contains more these than any other New Testament book.

  • You are faithful in Christ Jesus! (Ephesians 1:1)
  • You have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ! (Ephesians 1:3)
  • You were chosen in him before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blame! (Ephesisans 1:4)
  • You were predestined to be adopted as a child by Jesus! (Ephesians 1:5)
  • You have been accepted in the beloved! (Ephesians 1:6)
  • You have redemption through His blood! (Ephesians 1:7)
  • Through His blood you have been forgiven! (Ephesians 1:7)

These are just a few samples of the “in Him” Scriptures. I recommend going through the New Testament looking specifically for the rest. Personalize them just like I have here and spend time looking at them every day.

Our old man was crucified with Christ. It did leave behind a body in our soul though that needs to be dealt with. It manifests through wrong thinking. We can destroy this body by submitting ourselves to God’s Word and by allowing it to renew our minds to think like God thinks. This is how we break free from sin (Romans 6:6).
