The old-timers used to talk about dying to self. This is not a popular term today. We are often more enamored with our achievements than God’s which is why so many of our lives lack His power.
Most of us will go to great lengths to get ahead in our careers. We sacrifice time with our families to chase our dreams which are usually not reflective of the plan God created us to pursue.
God will always call us to do things that are beyond our natural ability. This may be in a secular vocation or it may be in a ministerial capacity. We need to examine our life pursuits. If we are doing things that do not need God’s help it is likely He did not ask us to do them. Many people desire to be used by God. They volunteer at church and try to find areas to serve but seem to always find the door closed. This is usually due to their dependence on themselves.
Our talents will only take us so far in life. God will take us beyond them into places that we could not imagine if we’ll just yield ourselves fully to Him. He will provide an anointing to accomplish what calls us to do.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33
When we seek God with all of our hearts, He will put His desires in our hearts. If we will pursue these His anointing will be on our efforts.
The majority do not follow their hearts. They will follow conventional wisdom but that is not a sure guide. Christians will often take a job based on salary or benefits. We cannot let circumstances or money guide us.
We should examine the motives and desires of our hearts. If nothing were holding us back would we be doing what we’re doing today? Some of us are holding onto jobs because we are close to retirement or have financial obligations. Are these the jobs God has called us to do?
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14
The Holy Spirit will lead us by our desires. We can depend on these if we are seeking God’s kingdom first.
So what is it that you desire to do? Does your life count for the Kingdom of God? Each one of us only has one lifetime to accomplish what God has called us to do. Are we maximizing our time building His Kingdom or ours?
