Fundamentals of Christian Growth Part 11

The rosetta stone was discovered in 1799. It is inscribed with three versions of a decree issued on behalf of King Ptolemy V Epiphanes. Each version is in a different language. One of these was ancient Greek which provided the missing key needed to unlock ancient Egyptian scripts.

Jesus’ parable of the four types of soil provides the key to unlocking all of His other parables. It is basically the Gospel version of a rosetta stone. This one parable will unlock the Word of God and open a doorway of revelation that will enable us to understand the Kingdom of God.

The sower soweth the word.
Mark 4:14

I believe that there is a reason why Jesus chose a seed to illustrate how the Word of God operates. He was not just talking about farming!

It is possible to cheat the world’s system. Students will copy answers from a classmates test and cram the night before a test to get a passing grade. This grade will not reflect their understanding of the material being tested.

Jesus chose to use a seed because it is not possible to cheat the system in regards to the growth of a plant. The seed must be planted and time given to allow it to grow. This is the reason we will never see a farmer waiting to plant their field until a week before it is time to harvest. They know that seed must be given time to grow.

There will always be a time to plant and another to harvest. This is just as true in spiritual matters as it is in natural. We cannot cram for a harvest.

Jesus chose to illustrate the Kingdom of God with a seed. We may not like to wait for manifestation but that is just the way it is. The seed of God’s Word must be planted in our hearts and given time to grow.

God established laws. We plant, water the seed, and give it time to grow. This will require us to learn patience which is a key for our Christian growth.

Seeds do not care where they are planted or who plants them. They will grow if they are planted and nurtured correctly. It does not matter if the ground is in my country or in yours! The principles are identical regardless of geographic location.

Many Christians are expecting harvests of healings or finances. These will not come if the seed is not planted and given time to grow. We will not receive our harvest if we do not first learn to cooperate with the laws governing a seed. I believe this is the reason Jesus said that we must first understand His parable of four soils to understand the Kingdom of God.

Jesus told His disciples that the “sower sows the Word”. The Word of God is the spiritual seed which produces the blessings provided in redemption. It does not matter what country we live in, what color our skin is, or even what neighborhood we grew up in. This seed works the same for anyone who will work it!

There are sincere Christians who beg and plead with God for deliverance. They pray with their whole heart but see no answers. Many have become discouraged over the lack of results and turned away from the Kingdom. If we look closely at their situations it will become clear that most did not plant the seed of God’s Word before crying out for deliverance.

We do not receive crops from prayer. A farmer can water his field and lay down fertilizer but will not receive a harvest unless there is seed in the ground.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua 1:8

I have talked to people who refuse to believe in healing because they knew someone who was a good Christian but still was not healed. These people may have been “good” but did they plant the Word of God in their hearts? Did they spend time meditating in the Word of God “day and night” as God instructed Joshua? We cannot determine these things by external appearances!

I don’t deny that Christians are sincere in their desire for God. It is just that we are acting like a frustrated farmer at harvest time when nothing is ready due to no seed being planted. People get mad at God and blame Him for situations in their lives which occur due to their not sowing the seed of His Word in their hearts.

We may have prayed and fasted but did we plant? It seems that the majority of Christians do not sow the Word of God in their hearts. If we are not spending time meditating in God’s Word on a daily basis we will have no basis for believing that a miracle is going to occur.

I acknowledge that there are people who did not meditate or pray and still received a miracle. This does happen. The Holy Spirit will manifest through the working of miracles and gifts of healings. He does this to help people who do not have a foundation in the Word of God but need a miracle.

God is love. It is out of this love that He has provided ministry gifts to the body with an anointing that produces these manifestations of the Holy Spirit. It is possible to get healed through these supernatural ministry gifts but this is not supposed to be our “normal” method of receiving.

People do receive healing through miraculous manifestations of the Holy Spirit but most will not be able to maintain their healing due to a lack of foundation built on God’s Word. God never intended for His people to always receive through ministry gifts. These are temporary measures to provide us time to plant the Word in our heart and produce a harvest of healing.

We must learn to go to the Word of God and receive healing for ourselves. The problem has been that the majority have never been taught this and do not know how to go to the Word of God for themselves.

Miracles must never be considered the “norm” for Christians. They are meant to draw people to Christ but then those people must be taught to plant the seed of God’s Word in their own hearts. God has made provision for every Christian to walk in the miraculous but this will only come as a result of much time spent meditating in His Word on a daily basis.
