24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
We are provided a contrast between the Old and New Covenants in this verse. Jesus entered in once to seal our redemption. Priests in the Old had to enter in annually for a covering of sin.
The Old required people to offer sacrifices every time they sinned. Once a year the nation observed the Day of Atonement to deal with all unconfessed sin. There was a constant flow of blood. Solomon killed over thirty thousand animals in one day in sacrifice!
Jesus only offered Himself once. Through His single sacrifice our eternal redemption was sealed! He did not to offer Himself over and over the way Old Covenant sacrifices had to be offered.
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Jesus offered one sacrifice to obtain an eternal redemption. His death, burial, and resurrection purchased forgiveness of sin for all people for all time!
It is not individual sin that keeps an unsaved person from entering today. Forgiveness applies equally to the unsaved and saved equally.
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:2
Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world. It is not the individual sins like lying, stealing, or adultery that is sending people to hell today.
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
These verses are speaking of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that He would “reprove the world of sin” not “sins”. This is far different than what is taught by religious tradition.
Jesus tells us in verse nine which sin the Holy Spirit will deal with mankind. It is the sin of not believing on Him. The Holy Spirit deals with the unsaved in regard to the fact that they do not believe on Jesus.
The only sin that sends a person to hell is not believing on Jesus! It is the rejection of Him that will separate them from God for eternity. Lying, stealing, adultery, and other sins are simply indicators that they have not yet received Jesus.
Christians lobby with non Christians based on natural works. The reasons given for not sinning is based on external consequences. Drinking can cause cirrhosis of the liver. Homosexuality can cause Aids. These are external consequences. The root cause of sin is a lack of trust in God!
A person who allows sin in their lives is not listening to God. They are exhibiting an attitude that declares they know better than He does. This is the root cause of sin. It is all rooted in pride.
We need to turn to God and cast our cares on Him. People turn to alcohol and drugs to cope instead when their only real hope of freedom is found in Jesus. He is the one who has provided us with an eternal redemption and if we do not accept Him, we will spend an eternity in hell!
