Keys to Unlocking The Plan Of God Part 29

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:1

We have seen in previous posts that discovering God’s plan for our lives begins with us becoming living sacrifices. Our self nature must be sacrificed to successfully walk in the place God has called us to.

When we commit our lives to the Lord He will supernaturally change them. This will be a process and it will not be easy. Our flesh nature will fight us but we can overcome with God’s help.

God will lead us step by step into His plan if we will commit ourselves to becoming living sacrifices. As we obey His direction on each step He will change us from the inside out. This will affect our natural world and we will start to see His blessings in manifestation.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:1

Paul tells us that becoming a living sacrifice is our “reasonable service”. He was writing to Christians.

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:7

The book of Romans was written “to all that be in Rome” who were “called to be saints”. It was not written just to those ministry. Every Christian in Rome was exhorted by Paul to become a living sacrifice. This applies equally to every Christian today!

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2

So we have talked about the necessity of becoming a living sacrifice. This is only the first step. We must also renew our minds with the Word of God. We will not successfully fulfill the plan of God if we do not do this.

If we only become living sacrifices without renewing our minds with the Word of God, we will not succeed. Satan will destroy us because there will be no foundation for us to stand against him.

Paul tells us that we renew our minds to protect from becoming “conformed to this world”. The word “conformed” depicts us being poured into a mold.

I think about my experience going through boot camp for the US Navy. There were some very tough guys in our division who would cry themselves to sleep at night! They were not easy on us but the goal was for us to be “conformed” into the mold of a US sailor. Those of us who graduated were not the same people who entered the program nine weeks before.

The Word of God will mold us into the person God has called us to be if we will submit to it. There will be a price to pay to do this. We will not become conformed into the person God desires for us to be if we only open the Bible one or two days a week.

I came out of the Navy a lot stronger than the day boot camp started. This required a commitment on my part to pay the price required to become physically fit and submit to the direction given by my superiors. We will find ourselves to be a lot stronger in our ability to fulfill God’s plan if we will make a similar commitment to His Word.

Paul tells us that we are not to be “conformed” to the worlds mold. Our experiences in life will mold us.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Matthew 24:12

The world around us is filled with iniquity. Television programs and movies are growing darker by the day. Crime rates are increasing and it has now become a rare week that news reports in the US do not contain at least one account of a police officer dying in the line of duty.

Sin is openly embraced by our society. There are parades to celebrate perversion and the world is no longer trying to hide their sin. We can only protect ourselves from the darkness around us by immersing ourselves in God’s Word.

We will be conformed into the image of this world if we do not allow our minds to be renewed to the Word of God.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2

The word translated “transformed” is metamorphoó. It refers to changing form in line with an inner reality. We derive the word “metamorphosis” from this Greek word. A little caterpillar will form a cocoon and emerge as a butterfly via the process of metamorphosis.

If we want to change from something that is earthbound into something that is beautiful we must allow our minds to be renewed with the Word of God. It seems like most Christians miss this simple truth and instead pray for God to change everything through a supernatural work. He will only do so as we pour His Word into our hearts on a daily basis.
