Flesh must be denied if we are going to walk in the plan of God. This will require us to make a commitment to no longer live according to our feelings or the circumstances around us.
Walking in the plan of God will require us to make course corrections for the rest of our lives. We will have moments of uncertainty, doubt, or failure. The Holy Spirit will be with us each step of the way and He will help us along the path that God has called us to walk.
Every person alive has a selfishness built into their flesh. We are made new spiritually at the moment we accept Christ but our flesh will still need to be dealt with.
A person who makes the commitment to die to self will not be instantly delivered from the self nature. This is something we will have to deal with and keep under for the rest of our lives.
Each one of us can make a total commitment to God. If we find ourselves acting out of our selfish nature we need to just repent and turn to God. He has filled us with His Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit will be with us each step of this journey.
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 5:24
I once heard a minister declare that he had crucified his flesh once and for all more than ten years prior. It was obvious that he did not understand what it meant to do this. We will have to deal with our flesh every single day and we will have to keep it on the cross.
Even though our flesh is something each one of us will have to deal with us we can overcome it. The first step is making a commitment to become living sacrifices.
I have heard people talk about having a desire to experience the presence of God. Every true encounter with God begins with us coming to an end of ourselves.
We will not see the supernatural power of God moving consistently in our lives until we come to a place of complete submission. This will require us to quit telling Him how to run our lives! It will mean a full surrender to His plan regardless of where it takes us.
It is sad to say but in my experience most Christians are not fully submitted to God’s will and plan. The concept of becoming living sacrifices is not something widely taught. Most churches today seem to be more focused on making people feel comfortable so they will continue to attend services and give in the offering.
The world does not revolve around us. We need to humble ourselves and become living sacrifices. Following Christ will require us to develop the heart of a servant which always places others needs above our own.
