That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18
The word “impossible” is not often used in association with God. He is all powerful and unlimited but unable to lie. We can trust His Word!
It is impossible for God to lie. This provides an assurance that we have the ability to do whatever He commands us to do. We can trust and rely on Him.
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Mark 11:22
When we talk about faith we are talking about having faith in God. This is not faith in our abilities or knowledge. It is also not faith in our parents or spouse. It is solely faith in God.
Our faith rests in the person who created the heavens and earth!
Our faith rests in the person who saved us and we now call Father!
Faith is trust. To have faith in God is to trust Him and His Word. If He said it, we have an assurance that He will do it.
Faith is persuasion, assurance, and trust. We can see an example of this in the life of Abraham.
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Romans 4:16-21
Abraham was strong in faith and he gave glory to God. Our trust honors God but our doubt dishonors Him.
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
I believe that this is a great definition of faith.
- Faith is being persuaded
- Faith is being convinced
- Faith is trust
- Faith is being assured
Stepping into faith will require us to overcome ignorance and indecision. It will require us to spend much time giving careful and considerate time in the Word of God.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
James 1:6-8
A person who waivers vacillates between belief and unbelief.
“God said I am healed but the pain is still there so maybe I’m not but Scripture says I am so maybe I am.”
The confidence of faith cannot be developed in a casual relationship. The type of trust we are talking about will require us to spend time meditating in Scripture and in prayer. It is not something we will accidentally fall into.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17
We become persuade by spending time hearing the anointed Word of God. This is why we must spend time meditating in Scripture and listening to anointed messages.
It is possible for us to come to the place where we are fully persuaded. This will require us to expend effort. If we will keep hearing we’ll get to the place where we stop wavering and become fully persuaded. This is the place where we become strong in faith.
