But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

Faith is the only way we will be able to please God. His Holy Spirit has taken up residence in our spirits and will teach us how to walk in faith if we will ask Him.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17

God reveals Himself through His Word. He has provided revelation of His ways and blessings in Scripture. This does not mean that every Christian will “get it”. Many read the Bible without faith and miss the revelation contained within.

People miss the revelation because they are not reading with faith. Revelation can only be received by faith. As our faith grows our ability to receive revelation from God’s Word will also grow.

Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Mark 7:13

There are a lot of intelligent people who have spent countless hours studying Scripture without receiving revelation. They study with the same approach a scientist might take to study their field. Faith is not involved. These people may teach what they have learned but power will be missing since they are not teaching from revelation imparted by the Holy Spirit.

A key part of our being able to receive revelation is how much we respect the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is standing by to teach us as we read but our approach recognize that we are looking at the very Word of God.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26

The Holy Spirit will open our spiritual eyes to see into the Word of God.

The Holy Spirit will open our spiritual ears to hear what our heavenly Father is saying.

The Holy Spirit will open our spiritual heart so that we will be able to understand what we hear and see.

Spiritual things are real. They are precious and the Holy Spirit will not work with a person who does not respect them.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Proverbs 9:10

The word “fear” could also be translated as “respect” or “reverence”. This is the foundation of our being able to receive revelation from God.

Revelation does not begin with education. Our study habits will not necessarily affect our ability to receive what the Holy Spirit is endeavoring to teach us.

Our ability to receive from God’s Word begins with faith. Faith is not knowledge and believing is not understanding.

Faith is a spiritual force that flows from our heart.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:10

We do not believe with our intellect or mind. Faith will always flow from the heart.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

Our understanding is part of our mind. It is not the same thing as our heart.

Faith is a force and it is a choice. We choose to believe and then we will begin to see and receive revelation.

Our revelation of God’s Word will grow in line with the growth of our faith.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17

We grow from one level of faith to the next. This is why we may see things in the Word of God today that were missed a year ago. The reason is simply that we’ve grown in faith.
