Keys To Increasing In Spiritual Awareness Part 3

Did you know that the Holy Spirit is standing by to help you with everything from finding a parking space to who you should marry? He is interested in every detail of our lives and is just waiting for us to look to Him.

We are discussing keys to increase our spiritual awareness. The first is to realize and recognize His presence in our daily lives. Second, we must learn to reverence Him.

The Holy Spirit is God just as Jesus is God and our heavenly father is God. The following list provides us with four things that make Him God:

  • He is eternal
  • He is all knowing
  • He is all powerful
  • He is everywhere

We can associate this list with God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I would like to take time in this post to establish each of these points.

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
Hebrews 9:14

Here we see that Jesus “offered Himself” “through the eternal Spirit”. He is eternal and has been present since the beginning of creation.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:2

Here we read that the Holy Spirit was moving on the first day of creation. He is the eternal Spirit!

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
John 14:16

Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit is eternal and will abide with us forever. He is the second Comforter who dwells in the spirit of every Christian.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Psalm 51:11

David penned these words after his sin with Bathsheba. There are many Christians who quote them. God is not not going to take His Spirit from us. Jesus said that He would be with us forever.

At some point in this or a future series we will talk about the “sin unto death” and what it means to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. This is an important topic and I want to make sure we provide enough space for the discussion but first feel a foundation must be laid.

The second point in our list is that the Holy Spirit is all knowing or omniscient.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26

How will He teach us all things if He does not know them?

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1 John 2:20

The Holy Spirit is dwelling in the spirit of every Christian. He provides the unction that enables us to have access to His knowledge.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10

The Holy Spirit knows everything and He is living inside of my spirit. This does not make me omniscient but it does mean that I have access to Him.

The Holy Spirit is also all powerful or omnipotent.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Romans 8:11

God raised Jesus from the dead by the Holy Spirit. This was a great demonstration of the power of God.It was one of the mightiest miracles recorded in Scripture.

But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Luke 11:20

I find it interesting that Jesus said He cast out devils with “the finger of God”. Many Christians are afraid of the devil. They do not understand their position in Christ and resulting authority that is exercised through the Name of Jesus.

1And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
Ephesians 1:19-21

Paul tells us that the “exceeding greatness of His power” was displayed in the resurrection of Jesus. This required a much greater display of His power than the resurrection of Lazarus. When Jesus was raised from the dead, every human being who will ever lived was raised in Him and provided redemption from sin!

Christians will often settle at levels far below their redemptive privileges. The reason is they do not learn to look to the Holy Spirit for direction and guidance.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Romans 8:11

The Holy Spirit will “quicken” our mortal bodies.

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 1:14

I remember glossing over this my first reading because I did not understand what an “earnest” was. It is simply a down payment of our redemption providing a taste of our eternal redemption. The quickening of the Spirit in our mortal bodies is part of this downpayment.
