We have looked at the lives of David and Saul. In both cases we’ve seen sin. Saul did not repent and was unable to fulfill the plan of God. David repented of his sin and became known as a man after God’s own heart.
As we continue on in our journey let me take a moment to encourage you. You may have made a mess of things and you may have made wrong choices in the past. These things do not matter. They are in the past and if you will follow the path of David and repent God can move you into His plan.
We are in the place of life that we are. Nothing can change that. Regardless of how bad things may look we must humble ourselves and begin seeking God. He can take our messes and make something beautiful out of them. It all begins with our willingness to repent.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
God does not cause the negative things in our lives. He can take turn things around though if we will first humble ourselves in repentance.
Satan will try and bind us up with “what if” questions. There will always be a “what if” but we must not allow ourselves to dwell on those.
David could have beat himself up with the “what if” questions. He committed adultery and then murdered a man to hide what he had done. His life story contains many mistakes and messes he made. These costs his wives and sons a lot of pain and agony. David could have beat himself up over his bad choices but instead he chose to keep trusting God.
It does not matter how badly we have made a mess of things and missed God’s plan. He still has a plan for our lives. This may not be the original plan but it is a plan built by God Himself!
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Romans 11:29
God is unchanging. We may be way off course but He is able to redirect us back to the right path.
It almost seems that the vast majority of people have more faith in a natural GPS systems ability to get us on the right path than do on God. If we are following one of these and make a wrong turn or take the wrong exit, it will lead us back to our path. We can trust the Holy Spirit to be much more accurate in His guidance than one of these systems!
We may have changed direction but God has not changed. He has a plan for our lives and He will lead us to it if we will humber ourselves and seek His face.
There will be people who read these posts whose lives have not gone in the direction ordained by God. Many of us have made mistake and walked away from the plan of God. We will always find the Holy Spirit standing by to lead us gently back onto the path when we repent and turn back to God.
