By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Hebrews 11:5
We have seen in previous posts that faith is how a Christian is meant to live. We are created in the image of God and are called to imitate Him.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6
The writer of Hebrews tells us that Enoch pleased God. This would mean that he would have had to have a testimony of walking by faith. Faith is the only way we can please God.
It is impossible to please God without faith. This is a strong statement.
We see in verse six that those who approach God “must” believe that he is. The word “must” is translated from the Greek word “dei” which means “what is absolutely necessary”. It is “absolutely necessary” that we believe that God exists and that He will reward those who will diligently seek Him.
Anything that we do which is not in faith is unacceptable to God. For this reason we can conclude that faith is mandatory for the Christian.
God is not hard to please. He is not unreasonable. If He requires faith from us then it is apparent a lot of our being able to please Him is based on our growth in faith.
He is not pleased when we are not receiving what He provided for us in Christ Jesus.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
God gave Jesus based on His love for humanity. It is through this gift we are able to receive eternal life but this will require us to accept by faith.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4
John tells us that we walk in victory and overcome by faith. From this verse we can conclude that God is not pleased when we are not overcoming and walking in victory.
God delights in our walking by faith. He sent Jesus to open the door for us to receive eternal life by faith and He has provided us everything needed for life.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:3-4
It is through “the knowledge of him” that everything is supplied. This knowledge is received through the Word of God.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17
We are called to walk by faith. Faith has its source in the Word of God. It is safe to say that we receive everything God has provided us by faith. I say this because Peter wrote that all things are given to us through the knowledge of “him that hath called us”. Faith grows as we receive this knowledge by meditating in the Word of God.
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
Psalm 35:27
The Psalmist tells us that God is pleased when we prosper. He cannot be pleased without faith so wouldn’t this mean that our prosperity can only come by faith?
God is pleased to see His children blessed just like any natural Father. This is not what religion teaches.
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Mark 7:13
Religious tradition pulls us out of faith. This is why it is able to make the Word of God ineffectual in our lives. Satan knows that if he is able to pull us out of faith we will be cut off from the blessings of God. One of his most effective tools to accomplish this is tradition.
God is not pleased by us following the rules and doing the right things. He is only pleased by faith. If we are walking by faith we will please God and we will do the right things.
Our relationship with God will always be based on the heart. He wants us to move beyond knowledge and understanding into the “spirit of faith”.
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.
2 Corinthians 4:13
As we meditate on Scripture and grow in faith it will become a part of us. We will find ourselves doing more and more things in faith. A person can wake in faith, sleep in faith, work by faith, etc.
Faith will give everything that we do a different spirit. We will begin to approach life from a perspective of faith because faith is a way of living that will always lead us to victory.
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:29
Jesus could not have done only those things that pleased God if He was not walking by faith. Can you see this? Faith was the foundation for His life and earthly ministry.
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV)
Paul had to walk by faith to imitate Jesus because Jesus walked by faith. We imitate Paul then when we walk by faith.
It will help you to say over your life that you always do those things that please the Father. We have seen that faith comes by the Word of God and this confession will build faith into our spirits.
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Luke 3:21-22
Jesus pleased the Father. He lived, breathed, and walked by faith. This is the example we are to follow.
