Who Is This Holy Spirit Part 13

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14

There are many Christians who make plans and then ask God to bless their endeavors. If we will take the time to wait in the presence of the Holy Spirit for Him to reveal God’s plan we will know what we are doing is blessed.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139:16

God knew us before we were born. He developed a plan for us and wrote it in His book before we took our first breath. The Holy Spirit dwells in the spirit of every Christian and He will guide us into that plan.

It is not for us to decide what we want to do with out lives. The Holy Spirit will lead us on a journey of discovery that will reveal our plan and purpose if we will train ourselves to follow Him.

A person who learns to follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit will never fail. They will continue to grow and prosper in life. This will not be the case though if we are not following Him.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14

The Spirit of God is waiting for us to look to Him. He is a gentleman and will never force us to follow Him.

Paul said that “sons” of God would be led by the Spirit of God. The Greek word hyiós is translated “sons” in this verse. It is a reference to anyone who shares the same nature as the Father.

We will see in this study that spiritual maturity is inseparable from being led by the Spirit. God’s nature was imparted into us at salvation but we must grow in and learn how to walk in it. The Holy Spirit will guide us through the steps and we will experience growth as we follow Him.

Before we continue let me say that we need to be mindful of using the phrase “the Lord told me”. Many Christians use this very loosely. This is a foreign concept to many people.

“Please pray for me. I have a big decision coming up an can’t seem to hear from God.”

I’ve heard people make similar statements to this. We must watch the words we’re speaking. The Bible tells us that we can hear from God and that we are led by the Spirit.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:27-28

Many people struggle with understanding how God speaks to them because they are not spending time with Him. He speaks to us first through the written Word. Our spiritual journey began when we heard the message of salvation and we must continue hearing the Word to walk successfully in step with the Holy Spirit.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:16-17

We have seen in previous posts that the Holy Spirit is a person. He is the third member of the Godhead and He is dwelling in the spirit of every Christian.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
2 Corinthians 13:14

Paul closed his second letter to the Corinthian church with an encouragement to have “communion” with the Holy Spirit. This word means “fellowship”. We have previously said that it is inappropriate for us to refer to the Holy Spirit with an impersonal pronoun like “it”.

The Holy Spirit is a person and He desires to have fellowship with us. Our first step into this fellowship comes with us recognizing His presence in our lives and that He is a knowable person.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
John 14:16

Jesus was the first Comforter. We have already seen that the Holy Spirit is our second comforter.

The disciples were upset to hear Jesus say He was leaving. Jesus promised them though that He would send someone to be with them who would be with them forever. He was with them and He is with us today.

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:17

Dr. Kenneth E. Hagin used to encourage people to become more “God inside minded”. We do this by becoming more aware of the Holy Spirit who is dwelling inside of us.

I have attended Bible school and college. During my studies there were some professors who were spiritually aware but it seemed that more were intellectually aware. These were trapped in intellect and reason which is why so much of the Church is powerless today.

The Holy Spirit lives inside of every Christian. He should be just as real to us as any other person we come into contact throughout the day.
