Who Is This Holy Spirit Part 12

We closed our last post with the three requirements for becoming sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading:

  • Realize He is present
  • Reverence His presence
  • Respond to His leadings

Becoming strong in each of these areas will guarantee our ability to follow and fellowship with Him.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14

Christians should be led the Spirit of God. If we do not recognize His presence and respond to His leadings this will not be true in our lives. If we are led by the Holy Spirit one hundred percent of the time we would never make another mistake in our lives.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Romans 8:27

We have been talking about the Holy Spirit as a person. Paul refers to the “mind of the Spirit”.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
Romans 8:16

We have discussed the importance of being led by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:16 provides insight into how He does this.

Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit leads by bearing witness with our spirit. One of the greatest difficulties people have with this passage is a result of not understanding our nature. We are first spirit and we were created in the image of God.

We have a mind and live in a physical body but we are not “mind” or “body”. These are something that we have.

People with a focus on natural things struggle with the three parts of man. They look at the external and talk about the exploits of natural man.

A brain is the physical organ through which our mind functions through. It is not our mind. If it was surgically removed we would still have our minds and retain all of our memories. We would just lose the ability to express ourselves in the natural realm.

There is no limit to what our minds can learn or understand. It is not limited by physical restraints as it is part of our soul.

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1 John 2:20

The unction comes from the Holy Spirit who is dwelling in our spirits. The soul and spirit will continue to live and learn after we leave our physical bodies.

The Holy Spirit has a mind just as we do. He has thoughts just like us.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
2 Corinthians 13:14

Paul tells us that we can commune (i.e., fellowship) with the Holy Spirit. We can understand how this is possible by looking at how we fellowship with other people. Fellowship requires us to be in the other persons presence either in person or by phone.

Communion literally means “a sharing in common”. When we commune together we are sharing. Eating a meal together is an example of this concept. We sit down at the same table and eat from the same items that have been served. Each one of us then is eating the same thing.

When people eat together they share food but words will also be shared in the form of conversation. These words will mean nothing if they do not convey a thought. Communication does not happen if the person we are speaking with does not understand what we are saying.

There is a limitation on our understanding and vocabulary. What if we could take our minds out of our brains and put His in? The Holy Spirit is inside of us and we are able to tap into His mind.

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16

We access the “mind of Christ” through our fellowship with the Holy Spirit. He is standing by and He is in our spirit. Things can come come up from our spirits that allow us to just know things via revelation given by the Holy Spirit.

He will show us things that we did not know or figure our by ourselves. This is revelation knowledge and it comes without conscious effort on our parts.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1 Corinthians 13:8

Knowledge will pass away because the body of Christ will live like this in heaven. For eternity it will be revelation knowledge that guides us and so natural knowledge from this world will not be needed!
