Traditions Of Men Part 19

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Proverbs 29:15

We have been discussing the purpose of God giving the Law. No parent desires to punish their children but it is sometimes necessary. God dealt with mankind out of mercy for almost two thousand years but this only resulted in sin multiplying. The Law was given to provide guardrails and associated punishments for moving outside of those.

God began to start punishing sin not out of anger for mankind or a lack of mercy. He allowed humanity almost two thousand years of living under mercy. This resulted in such a propagation of sin that God had to put a restraint on it. When He gave the Law and started punishing sin, it utilized fear of punishment to curb sin.

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Galatians 3:19

The Law was only meant to be only until the “seed” should come. It was not intended for New Testament Christians who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus who it that “seed”.

There has been approximately six thousand years of history since the fall of mankind. The first two thousand God dealt with people in mercy.

Thank you for stopping by today. If this post has been a blessing please share our blog with your friends and family. God provided the Law which was in place until Jesus came. For the last two thousand or so years mankind has been under a covenant of grace that was ratified with the blood of Jesus.

To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Ephesians 1:6

We are not supposed to live in fear of God. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are washed and “made accepted” to fellowship with your creator!

There are examples of God’s wrath in the Bible. Each is in the Old Testament and not one example to be found shows that people were better after judgement fell than before.

Miriam was the sister of Moses. She spoke against Moses and was judged with leprosy. God did heal this condition but her time of leadership was over and the next mention of her is when she died. The leprosy and subsequent healing did not make her better.

Our punishment and judgment was placed on Jesus. God is not going to strike us with leprosy!

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:13-14

Christ took the curse upon Himself for us. This freed us from the constraints of the Law!

But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
Acts 15:5-11

Peter called the Law a “yoke” that the Jewish people had been unable to bear. Jesus came to free us.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Romans 8:1

A sense of being unworthiness stems in an Old Covenant mentality that brings condemnation. Jesus went to the cross to free us from this. We need to renew our minds to who we have been made in Him!
