We have seen that God chooses people differently than we do. His criteria is much different than what we would use to determine whether a person is usable or not.
“God couldn’t use me though. I don’t have anything to offer Him.”
A statement like this indicates the person has not discovered what God has called them to do with their life. They do not understand His purpose or abilities that were placed in them from birth.
We serve a supernatural God. He will always ask us to do things that are beyond our natural abilities. We will not succeed without a total dependence on the Holy Spirit.
If we only do what we comfortable doing we will never enter into the plan and purposes of God.
“I’m a natural born salesman!”
“I’m a natural at my job!”
These statements are indicators that the person has not discovered what God has called them to do. God will always call us to do things that require us to get our of our natural abilities.
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace.
Galatians 1:15
Paul was separated to the Gospel ministry in the womb. This was before Jesus even walked the earth! It was also before he had the opportunity to hone his skills as a Pharissee.
God has a purpose and calling for our lives. It may or may not be in line with what we perceive our strengths and weaknesses to be.
Most Christians will never find the plan of God for their lives. This does not mean they are not doing good things. Doing something good though does not mean we are in the place that God called us to walk.
You may be a successful business person or even a doctor. Did God call you into your profession?
We only have one chance to fulfill God’s will.
Paul was separated from his mother’s womb for a specific purpose. Each one of us were created by God for an equally specific purpose. We need a revelation of this which can only be found in time spent giving careful and considerate attention to Scripture and prayer.
The plan of God will not happen by accident in our lives. Pursuing it will require us to give time and effort. Many have referred to this time and effort as the price paid to fulfill God’s plans and purpose.
Paul recognized that God had a purpose for his life. He spent more than twenty years among the Jews pursuing what he thought was the plan of God.
For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
Galatians 1:13-14
Paul “profited” in his career more than his peers. He was zealous and doing exactly what He thought was the right thing. Jesus stopped him one day though on the Damascus road and told him he was not on the right path.
Pursuing the plan of God required Paul to completely turn his back on the career he had pursued. It required him to leave his friends and peers to pursue ministry among the Gentiles.
There are some Christians who have recognized that God has much more for them than what they have achieved to date. Some recognize God has called them to leadership but never pursued His call.
It is possible to prosper and achieve success utilizing the gifts God has placed in us. Paul did this but he did not do it in the will of God.
There are many people in the entertainment industry who have a calling from God. They have used the talents He placed in them to achieve success but not in His plan. Every career field contains people who have done the same.
We must recognize the fact that God has a plan and purpose for our lives. It will not happen accidentally. Entering into it will require us to pursue it through concentrated times in prayer and meditation on His Word.
Many Christians are comfortable. They have gained a sense of security where their life is at and they are comfortable coasting to the finish line.
Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Jeremiah 1:4-9
God knew Jeremiah before he was formed in the womb. God was involved in his conception!
“…before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.“
This is similar to what Paul said in Galatians 1. God sanctified Jeremiah in his mother’s womb and ordained him to be a prophet to the nations. This was the plan and purpose for Jeremiah’s life.
Please note Jeremiah’s response to the call and plan of God.
“before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.“
Jeremiah was focused on his perceived weaknesses. This is similar to how many of us have responded to the call of God. It is also why many Christians will never enter into the plan and purpose of God for their lives.
What has God created you for? Jeremiah was created to be a prophet to the nations. You have a purpose and you were not an accident!
