Welcome back. We began discussing the third method of receiving healing in our last post. This is the prayer of agreement.
The prayer of agreement consists of two or more people joining together in prayer. There is power when believers come together this way. More can be accomplished in prayer.
How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?
Deuteronomy 32:30
Jesus talked about two coming together in the prayer of agreement. He did not place limits on what we could ask for. He said, “anything”. Would that include healing? Absolutely!
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 18:19
Let me place a slight disclaimer here. Jesus is not giving us a license to agree and ask for whatever we want to. That would not be in context with the rest of His teachings. The things we ask for must be founded in Scripture.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us that it is impossible to “please” God without faith. Faith will always be based on His Word. In the area of healing, we find a promise in Scripture and then agree together with a prayer of petition based on that promise.
Prayer that is not built on God’s Word will not include faith. It cannot please God. I have seen people haphazardly ask others to agree with them. My first question will always be for them to provide the Scripture they are standing on.
God’s Word is the guarantee of our agreement. It is out rock of assurance that the thing for which we have prayed will be done.
Previously we talked about healing sometimes manifesting over a period of time. It does not always come instantaneously. There will be times we will have to stand praising while waiting for the manifestation. This will require us to keep the promise we are standing on before our eyes.
And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Exodus 15:26
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Matthew 8:17
Here are just two of many Scriptures that we can stand on. He is the Lord our healer and Jesus bore our sicknesses. There are many more Scriptures that are available. The key in determining which one to stand on is to be led by the Spirit.
The prayer of agreement does not require us to be physically present in the same place. This is one error I’ve seen. There is no distance in the realm of the Spirit. I can be in the US and you in another country.
Jesus did not say, “If two of you are physically present and agree”. He only said that we must agree. Two believers can pray the prayer of agreement over the phone and expect results. The main thing is agreement not physical locality.
A second thing to realize is that the prayer of agreement requires us to be at the same level of faith regarding the thing upon which we agree. We must have a unified purpose for our prayer to work.
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Amos 3:3
If we are at two levels of faith it will be difficult for us to agree. I have seen people ask another believer to agree with them because they were not completely settled. In these cases they try to find someone who is at a higher level of faith to agree with them. This will not work. Agreement requires us to agree. It is not meant for one believer to prop up another.
I have seen ministers try to agree with people at their level. When we minister to someone, we must come down to their level of faith. It is a mistake to try and expect them to come up to where we are. This is a common mistake.
Success in ministering healing will require us to find what the sick person is able to believe for. If I am expecting a miracle and the sick person is only believing for improvement we cannot agree. Agreement requires us to locate each other and meet where each of us are able to stand in faith.
We all are at different places in our faith walk. There are areas my wife is strong in that I’m not as strong in. Recognizing this is key to our being able to walk in agreement.
If there is no agreement this prayer will not work. Many have agreed without result. This usually results in people questioning the will of God.
The leader of the church I attend encourages us to pray that our level of experience would be brought up to the level of God’s Word. Many Christians do the exact opposite. They experience a faith failure and try to explain it away as not being God’s will. When these things happen we should be asking where we failed because God’s Word will never fail.
Find someone who can meet you where you are at if you need someone to agree with you. This person may be more mature in their Christian walk but this does not mean they cannot meet you at your level of faith.
Usually it is better to discuss what you are agreeing on and then have one person pray. How do you know if it worked? When the prayer is finished you have assurance of an answer if both of you are confident that the petition is answered. This will not be the case if you are not in agreement.
I have prayed this prayer with people and then asked them if what we asked for was done. Some have answered, “I hope so”. They are not in faith and so did not agree. Faith is not hope. Faith is an assurance in the promises of God.
So the prayer of agreement is our third method of receiving. The first was to demand in the name of Jesus. This is where we demand that the devil take his hands off of our bodies. Our second method was too pray to the Father in Jesus name. We will pick up with the fourth method in our next post.
