Welcome back to our series on How To Receive Healing. We have already looked at two methods:
- Demand in Jesus name
- Ask the Father in Jesus name
Today we are going to begin examining the third method which is to receive healing through the prayer of agreement.
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Matthew 18:18-20
“If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father.”
Jesus is talking about prayer. We have talked about Jesus’ statement in John 14:
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (verse 13)
Jesus was not talking about prayer in John 14. We pray to the Father in Jesus name as we saw in John 16:
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
John 16:23
We have already spent some time discussing these two verses. I encourage you to go back and catch up if you have not read the previous posts.
“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.“
Why is agreement important? Wouldn’t it just be easier to pray the prayer of faith?
We pray to the Father in Jesus name in the prayer of faith and in the prayer of agreement. There is a slight difference between the two that is very important for us to consider.
How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?
Deuteronomy 32:30
Here we see that one can “chase a thousand” but two can “put ten thousand to flight”. Think about this in context of the prayer of agreement. I can chase one thousand. You can chase one thousand. One thousand plus one thousand in the natural should equal two thousand, right? This is basic math from a natural viewpoint. From God’s view though if you and I get together in agreement one thousand plus one thousand equals ten thousand!
So in the prayer of agreement we join forces in prayer. I am convinced that convinced we do not have the revelation of what the prayer of agreement can mean to our Christian walk.
My family consists of my wife and I. I’ve heard men talk about being the prayer covering or spiritual head. The Bible does tell us this but it does not mean our wives are passive participants. In prayer I can put one thousand to flight if I try to do all of the praying alone for our family. When my wife joins me in prayer we can put ten thousand to flight. This is the power of agreement!
