One reason for failure in prayer is the rush to do it. Our first instinct seems to be to pray at the first sign of a symptom or need. We need to discipline ourselves to stop and take time to look at God’s Word before we go to God in prayer.
It is good to pray. When it comes to healing I’ve found that most people want to immediately pray. If we go to God with a petition that is not based on His Word we are not going to succeed.
We need to ask ourselves what we are basing our prayer on. Successful prayer will always be built on the Word of God. God will always honor His Word.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18
God invites us into His presence to “reason together”. This is a reference to prayer. When we approach Him with a petition for healing we must be ready to present our argument. If it is based on the Word He will grant us the healing requested.
“Father, you said that it was by Jesus’ stripes that I was healed. I know that you cannot lie so I’m asking for that healing based on 2 Peter 2:24. Thank you.”
We have a legal right to approach God our prayer is based on His Word.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.
1 John 5:14
To ask according to “His will” is to ask according to His Word. It is Scripture that is foundation for a confident expectation of receiving our healing.
If we do not go to God on the basis of His Word there will be nothing for Him to honor. This is why we must start with the Bible before we rush into prayer.
Success will require us to find Scriptures that promise us what we are believing for. This will provide us with an unshakeable foundation to stand on.
Take the time to find Scriptures on healing and then meditate on them until they become revelation. Let them sink into your heart.
I have seen people rush to prayer and then become discouraged when nothing happens. These are often the people who say healing is not today.
“I’ve tried that faith stuff and it didn’t work!”
The problem is that they “tried”. We do not try the Word, we do it. The only people who receive what they pray for are those who are doers of God’s Word.

Great Post! The question the Holy Spirit posed to me was are you obeying when you’re praying?

Thank you. I think the Holy Spirit’s question illustrates James’s point in James 1:22-25.
