God’s desire is for you and I to live in divine health. He has provided a number of methods for us to receive this. The goal of this series is for us to examine the methods seen in Scripture.
We have already seen that healing can be instantaneous or it can be gradual. It is imparted by degree and it is based on two conditions:
- The degree of healing power that is administered to the sick person
- The degree of faith that gives action to that power
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
I have heard people say they did not know that faith was needed to receive healing. It does not matter if it is healing or anything else that we are seeking. Anything we receive from God will require us to have faith.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Faith will always be involved in the process of receiving and keeping our healing.
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith will always be built on the Word of God.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.
2 Peter 1:3
Peter tells us that God has given us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness”. Healing is one of these things. Notice though that it is “through the knowledge of him” that these things are received.
We receive knowledge of God through His Word. This knowledge provides the foundation upon which our faith is built.
We must never forget that faith will always be involved in our being able to receive, and keep, the healing power of God into our bodies. Paul tells us that faith “comes” by hearing the Word of God.
I have had people tell me that their problem is a lack of faith. Paul tells us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. A lack of faith can always be cured by spending time meditating on the truths of Scripture.
The most sure fire way to receive healing is to meditate on the Word of God until we become persuaded that we are healed. It is at that point of persuasion that we have assurance we’ve stepped into faith. Our next step will be to put that faith into action.
