The Christian with a mind focused on the Old Covenant will ask God to anoint them. We do not live in that covenant. In the New Covenant the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and has not left.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus and He is with us today!
If you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit is dwelling in your spirit. He does not come and go without notice. His anointing is on you when you are at home and when you are at work. This is a revelation lacking for the majority of Christians today.
“Oh God please anoint our service tonight.”
I do not need to ask God to anoint me because His Spirit is in me and He is on me.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Jesus promised to be in the midst of any group of Christians. When we gather He is with us.
“Please be with us tonight Lord.”
I hear people pray prayers like this and wonder how He can answer them. He already promised to be with us. The problem is that most people do not consider His promises before praying what they have always prayed or what they have heard others pray.
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
We need to be continuously searching the Scriptures to ensure we are living by them and not our traditions. It is easy to get into a rut and just do something because it is the way we have always done it.
