The Preaching Of The Cross

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

Did you know that God has chosen preaching as the only way for people to be saved? His angels are sent to minister for those who will inherit salvation but cannot lead anyone to salvation.

There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do. And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
Acts 10:1-8

Cornelius was a Roman. He was not Jewish but was devout and followed God. An angel appeared to him while he was praying and directed him to “send men to Joppa”. The angel was not sent to lead him into salvation.

It seems like this is a major area of misunderstanding for a lot of Christians. We pray and call out to God to save someone but this is not what Scripture directs us to do.

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 9:38

The message of salvation has been committed to us. Jesus told His disciple to pray that laborers would be sent into the harvest field. He did not tell them to ask Him to save the lost. It seems like our results would change drastically if we began to do what Jesus asked us to do.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16

God gave us HIs Word and He gave us the ministry of reconciliation. He is waiting on the precious fruit of the earth. It is our responsibility to gather men and woman into the Church. We do this by sharing the message that has been entrusted to us.
