Living With The Holy Spirit Is Better

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:17

Jesus told HIs disciples that it was “expedient” for Him to go away. This had to be hard for them to understand. They had traveled with Him for three to three and a half years and had been in every meeting He held. Can you imagine what must have been going through their minds?

The word expedient could also be translated “concurrence of circumstances” that results in benefit or advancement. Jesus was telling His disciples that their spiritual advancement required that He leave.  Why was this? By leaving Jesus would open the door for the Holy Spirit to come. This would be better for them than what they had with Him being present with them.

Have you ever considered the fact that the relationship we can have with the Holy Spirit is better than what the disciples had when they traveled with Jesus? This is amazing to think about. It is true but how many of us have a revelation of it?

There are Christians who will tell you that they wish that they could have lived back in Jesus’ day. These people will read through the Gospel accounts regretting they were not alive to see the miracles and experience the open air meetings. I do not believe that these people have a revelation of what we have been provided in Christ Jesus.

If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have His Holy Spirit dwelling in your spirit! Jesus said that this is “expedient” or an advancement from what the disciples had when they traveled with Him.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
2 Corinthians 13:14

Christians have the Holy Spirit living inside of their spirit. Paul exhorted the Corinthians to have “communion” with Him. Communion is fellowship. Fellowship is built through relationship. Every Christian can, and should, develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.

And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Jeremiah 31:34

It is such a privilege that has been given us. The question though is how many of us have a revelation of the person who is living inside our spirit? We are going to begin discussing Him in much more detail in the next post.
