Jesus Commanded His Disciples to Heal The Sick

Why do so many Christians approach God as if He will reject them? If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are sealed in Christ and can walk boldly into the presence of God without fear!

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16

If you are in Christ you are somebody! You have been washed in the blood, sealed in Christ by the Holy Spirit, and filled with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead!

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Matthew 10:8

Did you notice that Jesus did not tell His disciple to pray for Him to heal the sick? He told them to do it! Every believer has the Holy Spirit dwelling in their reborn human spirit. This is the same Holy Spirit who anointed Jesus:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me…
Luke 4:18

Who anointed Jesus? The Holy Spirit did.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
John 14:16

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to fill us and to anoint us.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.
John 20:22

Jesus breathed on His disciples and told them to receive the Holy Spirit. This is the same Holy Spirit who had anointed Him.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Matthew 10:8

Jesus commanded His disciples to heal the sick. He did not tell them to do this in their own power.

freely ye have received, freely give...

They had freely received the anointing from Jesus. It was not to build a name for themselves. The anointing was to be used for delivering captives from the clutches of Satan.

“Please God heal my friend. Please…”

Have you ever heard someone pray like this? I have. It is not what Jesus instructed us to do. He did not say that we are to approach God like a beggar. He directed us to “heal the sick”.

We will never be able to access the power of God by begging or pleading with God to do something in our place. He expects us to stand in our place of authority that can only be found in Christ Jesus.

The authority we are discussing is found only in Christ Jesus. It is not meant to draw people to us.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
John 12:32

We walk in His authority to lift up Jesus. The Church today has many celebrities with followings that sometimes rival a Hollywood leading lady or man. I believe that this grieves the Holy Spirit.

For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1 Corinthians 3:4

The church my family attends is led by a minister with an international following. When we first started to attend I had the opportunity to serve on the parking lot team. The lead minister travels a lot and it surprised me to have people pull into the parking lot and ask if he were in town. We rarely would know the answer but sometimes did. Many of these people would head home if they were told he was out of town. This surprised me because it should not matter if the leader is present or not. We are called to follow Christ and not man!

As we close today let me say once again that the authority we are discussing is found only in Christ Jesus. It is not a result of attending the right church or associating ourselves with the right crowd.
