Today we are going to begin a new series of posts that I am calling “Learning To Think Like God”.
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18
Many times we miss seeing God move in our lives simply because we have allowed ourselves to become comfortable in our Christianity. Comfort will often lead to complacent Christianity which in turns in our not pressing into prayer or spending time in the Word of God as we should.
When we are not pressing into prayer we will not believe God for bigger things.
God’s vision for our lives is always much bigger than we are able to see. As we grow and develop in our relationship with Him, He will be able to show us more. If we are not pressing in, we will not grow and this is what causes us to become complacent.
When we first launched the MB YouTube channel this happened to me. It became comfortable to just post other people’s messages. People were subscribing to the channel and being blessed but God had a much bigger plan. He began to speak to me about how I had built a box and was limiting Him to its confines.
This all culminated in August of 2019 when I saw that He had a much bigger plan for our ministry than just a single YouTube channel. It was at that time that the lid came off of the box I built. We launched our first Instagram channel (@MB_Bible) which was followed with our second (@MB_Devotional). These channels became the seedbed for our blog that you are visiting today.
In this series of posts we are going to spend some time examining the ways that we place God in a box resulting in His being unable to move in our lives as He desires. Every one of us has an area of influence that God has given us. Most of us are not doing enough with what He has given us.
We serve a big God. He has a much bigger vision for our lives than many of us can imagine.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:6
It seems that the majority of Christians today live their lives in a state of carnality. We are often more familiar with what is happening in the world than we are with what is written in God’s Word.
We serve a supernatural God. Most of us relate to Him on a natural level because we are more focused on the physical realm than the realm of the Spirit. I once heard a minister say that if a Christian’s life is not supernatural it is superficial! There is a lot of truth in this statement.
Every Christian should be able to look at their lives and know that they could never have achieved the things they have achieved without God’s involvement. If any one of us can explain our lives by explaining how we have been able to accomplish things through our own efforts we have not tapped into God’s plan.
God has a supernatural plan for each of our lives. We have a supernatural God who has placed His supernatural Spirit inside of our spirit when we were born again. Most of us keep Him in a box limiting what He is able to do in our lives.
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 23:7
Our lives will flow in the direction of our thinking. Many people will blame external forces for the condition of their lives, finances, or even health. They do not realize that God has place the power to change everything inside of their spirit when they were born again.
“You don’t understand how I’ve been treated and what people have done to me.”
“The economy is falling apart from the pandemic and I can’t make anything work as a result!”
We will see in this series of posts that it is not what is happening to us that determines the direction of our lives. It is the way we are thinking that has caused our lives to be what they are. If we want to change things then we will have to change the way we are thinking!
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…”
“I’m only human and can’t control this…”
“Covid-19 is spreading uncontrollably and there is no cure…”
“Everyone else is sick so I guess I’m going to get it too…”
Statements like these are rooted in sick thinking from a mind that needs to be washed with the water of God’s Word!
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
Ephesians 5:26
If we do not cooperate with the devil in our thinking, he will be limited in what he is able to do in our lives! The flip side of this though is that if we do not cooperate with God in our thinking, He will be limited in what He is able to do in our lives.
