I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)
We have seen in previous posts that each one of us is a spirit, we have a soul, and live in a body. It is our spirit that was made into a new creation when we became a Christian.
Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 that we must do something with our soul to keep it from being “conformed” to this world. It is our responsibility to renew our minds (i.e., soul) with the Word of God. If we are not taking time everyday to do this then our minds will not be in alignment with our spirit and as a result we will not be able to keep our flesh under.
If our soul (i.e., mind and emotions) is not renewed by God’s Word it will remain linked to our flesh nature. Many Christians are not giving the Word proper place and this is why so many struggle with putting their flesh under.
Imagine your soul as a pipe running through your head. On one side of the pipe is your spirit filled with the power of God and everything you will ever need. The other side of the pipe ends in your body which is where you experience financial lack and probably need some form of healing.
Our mind can be compared to a valve attached to the pipe. It can either be shut or it can be open. If we shut it then what is true in the spirit will never affect our physical bodies or external circumstances.
We have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead dwelling inside of us. Christians are dying from sicknesses and going bankrupt when the have the power needed to deliver them dwelling in their spirits! Everything we receive from the Spirit of God has to flow through our souls.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:6)
A carnally minded Christian is controlled by what they see, feel, hear, taste, or touch. They listen to the news and get their values from opinions from the world and not God or His Word. The worlds system will fail us but God’s Word will always give us a sure foundation!
I believe that people who watch the news with a goal of being “informed” are actually some of the most misinformed people today! The only way to be sure of our source of information is if we are putting the Word of God first.
