Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:1-8)
We have seen in the past few posts that in the spirit real we became an entirely brand new species when we were born again.
I’ve seen people pray the prayer of salvation and walk away from the altar with the same emotional problems, addictions, or habits. It takes awhile for our soul (i.e., mind) to be renewed by the Word of God.
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. (Ephesians 5:26)
Change begins in the spirit and works outward first in our soul and then in our body if we are spending time in prayer and studying the Bible. Paul call this process “the washing of water by the word”.
People who do not understand that there is a spiritual realm and the we are spiritual beings become discouraged by the lack of immediate change. We must develop a revelation of who we have become in the spirit when we were born again.
When a person says a simple prayer and ask Jesus to become their Lord they will experience a miracle. The prayer doesn’t have to be religious or theologically sound. I once heard Gloria Copeland say that she simply asked Jesus to take her life and do something with it. That is all she prayed and Jesus used that simple prayer to birth a global ministry through her and her husband.
When a person becomes a Christian they will experience a miracle. In the spirit we call this being “born again” because God completely recreates their spirit from an unrighteous state to a righteous state that is able to stand in His presence without shame or guilt.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
When a person is born again it is their spirit that is made brand new.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
Jesus was not talking about physical expressions. My background is in what some would call Pentecostal or Charismatic churches. Over the years I’ve heard people talk about being “in the Spirit” in a service. They based this on people running, dancing, shouting, or even being slain in the “Spirit”.
Worshiping God in spirit means that we are worshiping Him through who we are in Christ. It is based on what happened to us in the spiritual realm.
I have heard people talk about how they failed God. They are not walking in the spirit because in the spirit we cannot fail God if we are a Christian. Our born again spirit is just as pure and holy as Jesus is! It never fluctuates even though we may have things we struggle with in our flesh or soul.
Our spirit will never be discouraged!
Our spirit will never be hurt!
Our spirit will never fall into unbelief!
Our spirit will always be full of love, joy, and peace! A person who views themselves as being a failure or unworthy of God’s love is not worshiping Him in spirit and in truth. The cure for this is the Word of God and time spent with the Holy Spirit.
