Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:2-4
Every need that any of us will ever experience has already been provided for in Christ. Peter tells us that this provision is found in the “knowledge of him that hath called us”. It is time for us to stop groveling like a beggar living from paycheck to paycheck. Our spirit has been recreated and the same Spirit that raised from the dead has made his dwelling place in it. The Holy Spirit is the one who manifests the power of God and if we not experiencing that power in our lives, it is not because He is withholding it!
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Philemon 1:6
God has deposited all of His power into our spirits through the person of the Holy Spirit. Paul told Philemon that our faith will not become effective until we acknowledge the work of Christ in our spirits. I believe that the lack of power in our lives is not a result of doubting what God can do. We all believe that God can work miracles if He wants to! If we believe God can work miracles, why does it seem like they are not common? The reason is that we do not have a revelation of what God has already accomplished in our spirit and who we are in Christ.
God has a great plan laid out for each of our lives. We will not discover this plan if we do not learn to walk in the Spirit. If our decisions are being made based on logic, natural abilities, or our natural abilities then we are walking in the flesh and will enter into the plan of God. The plan of God can only be discerned in the spirit and many are struggling to find it because they are walking in the flesh.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:5-9
It really is not possible to be spiritually minded and depressed! The carnal mind Paul is talking about is a mind dominated by the five physical senses. Christians can be carnally minded by allowing their soul to be filled with death. This is possible if we are not continuously washing our souls with the water of God’s Word and allowing our minds to be renewed by it (Romans 12:1-2).
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
The wages of sin are not physical death. They are spiritual death which is manifested in many forms and may lead to physical death. Depression, discouragement, bitterness, and unforgiveness are all manifestation of spiritual death. We open the door for spiritual death to dominate our souls by not choosing to spend time in the Word of God.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6
We have the power to choose to be carnally minded or spiritually minded. The carnal mind will produce manifestations of death in our life and the spiritual mind life and peace. Choosing to be spiritually minded is a commitment that will require us to choose to seek God with our entire being.
It is important to make time to examine the fruit that is growing in our lives. It we find anything other than life and peace then we are not spiritually minded. This is not something to be condemned about. It just means that our priorities are not focused on the Word of God. We will change our fruit by changing the seeds that are being planted in our souls.
Sickness, death, and poverty are all manifestations of spiritual death. I have heard people make all kinds of excuses for their situations. The root is spiritual death and God has given us the power to change our situation by changing what we are feeding into our souls. Twenty years ago, I hit rock bottom and joined the military in my thirties to keep from ending up homeless. My home was foreclosed, my business shut down, and any hope for the future was gone. If anyone had an excuse it was me, but God was faithful and did not give up on me. He led me into His Word and taught me to change my thinking by giving myself to His Word. My life did not change overnight but step by step the Lord led me out of the hole that I had dug for myself and today I’m living the life He planned for me. There are still tests and trials that must be walked through but the life I’m living today is totally different from the one I was living twenty years ago!
