Walking In Victory Over All Circumstances

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57

I used to read this verse and wonder why it did not seem like it applied to me. My life consisted of one continuous failure after another. The enemy seemed to have free reign and I could not begin to imagine how this verse could be true for every believer. Over time the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see that I was judging Scripture by what I was experiencing in the natural realm. I was operating in the flesh and could not receive the promised victory until I began to develop my spirit. This lesson taught me that a life that is dominated by the five physical senses will never be able to rise above the trials of life.

We will need to develop a revelation of who we are in Christ if we are going to walk in the places that God has called us to walk. When we became a Christian God recreated our spirits and we became a completely new creation. Some versions of 2 Corinthians 5:17 read that we became a completely new species of being that did not exist before! At that point the Holy Spirit entered our spirit and we received the power and ability to overcome every situation that will ever be faced in life. It is now up to us to develop our spirits and learn to draw from the spirit by faith everything that has been placed in our spirits.

The foundation of this revelation is an understanding that we are created in the image of God. We are spirit just as our heavenly Father is, but we also have a soul (mind, will, intellect, and emotions) and we live in a body. Our physical flesh is just the container that our spirit dwells in. It is not us but if we do not develop ourselves in spiritual things it will control our lives.

We bring our physical nature in line with God’s system of doing things by renewing our souls with His Word. This will require us to commit time to meditate in His word and to wait in His presence in prayer. Renewing our souls is a process that will occur over time. It is not something that will happen overnight. We will find ourselves moving into a life that is beyond anything we could ask or think of only if we will persevere and continue in the Word on a daily basis.

Everything required for us to walk in the victorious life that God has planned for us has been deposited in our spirits. People do not experience this though because they spend their free time feeding on doctor’s reports, news headlines, etc. Peter tells us that God has already given us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3) through “the knowledge of him that hath called us” (2 Peter 1:3). This knowledge is found God’s Word. God has already provided for every need we will face but many will never enjoy this provision because they lack revelation knowledge of His provision.

Each one of us already has the power of God residing in our spirit. This power will flow out of our spirits through our soul and then into our bodies. God told Joshua to meditate in His Word day and night (Joshua 1:8-9). He did not tell Him to spend a few minutes in the morning or in the evening just before bed. Joshua was the one who was responsible for his own success or failure. To choose success required him to meditate in the Word day and night. It would require a commitment to God’s Word.

I’ve heard people say that they do not have time to be looking at the Word “day and night”. Joshua was chosen as Moses’ replacement and tasked with leading a nation of millions in the conquest of the promised land. He had a busy schedule but still God told him to meditate on His Word day and night. If it was possible for the leader of a nation to have time to do this then I think we could do the same!

God is not calling us to give up our natural responsibilities. We have families and jobs to tend to but still must give ourselves to the Word if we are going to live a life dominated by the Holy Spirit. The life of God flows out of our spirits and will affect every area of our lives if we will give ourselves to meditation in the Word. This life has been deposited in our spirit but will have no effect on our lives if we allow our thinking to be dominated by the natural realms.

I believe that we are not seeing the power of God in manifestation today because we are allowing ourselves to be distracted from the Word of God. The lack of understanding in the three parts of man is hindering us from stepping out into the deeper waters of the Spirit. People spend countless hours praying for an outpouring of power that has already been deposited in their spirits. We have the power but must learn to draw it out of our spirit!
