Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Darkness cannot compete with light. If we turn on a light the darkness will be replaced. Light will always replace darkness. If we would stand up for the truth we would see a difference in our society.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4)
Jesus is the light that God brought into the world. Through Him we are given access the life of God.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. (John 1:5)
Light always trumps darkness. Christians were martyred by the Roman empire for the first three hundred years. There were five or six different waves of martyrdom that went through the Roman world until Constantine was converted. Christianity literally conquered the Roman Empire! There were generations of Christians that died for that to happen but Christianity trumped the godless Roman system.
Constantine’s conversion was one of the worst things that happened to the Church. He began to fund church building programs and even required the pagans to begin attending service. Churches started to incorporate pagan rituals to make things easier for the unbelievers who were attending and the Gospel message became diluted. This resulted in the Church losing its savour instead of bringing the ungodly out of their sinful practices. Christians were no longer the salt of the world and their desire to become acceptable led to the dark ages.
In a sense we are seeing an almost similar type of progression today. The seeker friendly church growth movement has drawn tens of thousands into churches but few of these people have actually become Christian. They filled buildings with people who are Christian in name only. It seems like we are repeating the situation in the 300s following Constantine’s conversion that led to the dark ages.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. (John 1:6-9)
I believe that every person is born with an intuitive sense of right and wrong. We cannot be afraid of being criticized for declaring the truth. God has put a spark of truth inside of every single person. Every person intuitively knows right from wrong. The Bible does tell us that our conscious can be seared (1 Timothy 4:2). Every person who has ever breathed has had God reveal Himself (Romans 1:20). It is our job to turn on the light. They may criticize us for doing so but standing for the truth will fan the spark that God put inside of them from the moment of conception!
