So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. (2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLV))
The devil will use our troubles to distract us from the plan of God if we will let him. This tactic has been so successful that the majority of Christians today would probably be unable to say they are doing exactly what God has planned for their lives. It would probably be surprising to find how many would not even be able to describe the plan and purpose God has for their lives! Let’s stop for a second and think about this for our own lives. Can we say without a doubt that we are doing exactly what God called us to do on a daily basis? Are we working in the vocation that utilizes the talents He placed in us to the fullest? These questions are important because He will not bless our plans or purposes. It is impossible to ‘accidentally’ fall into the will of God. We must make a deliberate effort to discover His plan by taking time to meditate in His Word and wait in His presence. Paul told us the we are to “fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen” because circumstances will take a toll on us if we allow ourselves to be distracted by our troubles. This is why so many Christians are living in mediocrity today instead of the victorious life that God planned for them. As one minister once said, even a dead fish can float downstream! Walking in the plan of God requires effort because it means we refuse to ‘drift’ with the current of circumstances that the rest of the world is moving with. Instead, the plan of God requires us to turn our ‘canoe’ against the current and paddle upstream. There is no way we can put forth the effort needed to fulfill God’s plan if we do not know what that plan is. We will not know what that plan is if we do not make a conscious decision to go after it! The foundation of our Christian walk is the plan of God. None of us will be able to build on this plan if we are not able to discover it. We are each unique and God has an equally unique plan that was put together before we were even born. This plan is not hidden form us. The Holy Spirit has come to guide us in our journey through life and we must develop in our ability to follow His leadings.
